we bought a delta riverbottom buck 3d target, and it is a deer to shoot at for cheap, but we have had a recurring problem. the insert for the plastic leg is right behind the heart. if youre shooting with outserts, see picture. Its tough as hell to pull em out. the leg and arrows need to be surgically removed. :)

nice group though. :D
Funny...that just happened to me last week. I pulled like hell to finally get the arrow out...never took the time to look to see why it was so hard to remove...guess i know now.
Thanks
Michael
I have 5 of them in the woods beside my house. try pulling a woodsman broadhead out of them, its a pain broke a cedar last week. I ordered all my targets at once, think I will try something different next time.
I call them the arrow buster target, I took the legs off mine and now just shoot at the body. I paid $25 on sale and have busted twice that dollar amount of arrows in it. Never again!
Jack
Thanks for posting I will be sure an not buy one. :knothead:
Same here have had to cut them out, pain in the rear!!! :banghead:
Mine got so many inserts and points inside the legs, I'm considering selling them for scap metal.
Hey Luke, you're not suppose to shoot deer in the legs anyway. try to look at it as punishment for a bad shot. LOL. merry christmas to you and your family. Don
Aha, "glad" to see Im not the only one... I bought one of these last year and its great for 3D practice where the inner kill is behind the front leg by quite some amount, but for hunting practice too far back imo. On top of this I was using mine to practice for hunting africa where the kill zone is much further forward, good solid heart shots would result in the problem so vividly shown above...
I will not be replacing mine with another of the same....
On the plus side it has taken a huge amount of punishment from I dont know how many hundred silver flame hits....
Nathan
Anyone know what brand of 3D target would be a good one?

Why you shooting it in the leg? Thats a mafia shot...did it owe you money?
they have steel in the glenndel targets high and forwadso taking long shots can be risky think I'll stick with mckenze from now on
Mine went on a bonfire some time ago. Stupid design. I must've left $20 worth of field points in that front leg.
Same here, switched to the Rhineheart and never looked back.

:biglaugh: :biglaugh: Same here
just about put my back out trying to get them out
yep- glendel buck here- has shattered 4 arrows so far. A hit just 1 1/2" low of the heart area connects with a band of steel running along the bottom. Made contact with the company- but basically was told it is what it is.....
It's just a tighter celled foam to give it strength.Just spray some Pam cooking spray on the tip of your arrow up about2" and your good. And aim small miss small!
It's a product design "strategy" to teach you to not shoot for the heart and take double lung shots instead!

I couldn't agree more. My uncle had one of these delta river bottom bucks and on top of having this problem, we literaly shot it in half in less than a month. we finally decided to shell out the little bit extra for rineharts and we're still shooting them 3years later, and they're still in pretty good shape.
By the way the delta bear has the same problem, I've left several inserts in it's legs as well.
I used to have an older Delta buck (keywords: used to). I think it weighed about 3 pounds heavier when we threw it away than when I bought it. More points and inserts stuck in that foam than you could shake a stick at. The "last straw" so-to-speak, was when a Silverflame BH stayed in the target with it's insert. I cut that one out with a chisel. We then threw it in the trash.
Bet Ashby would say you need a single bevel to solve that problem.
I know lots of people who bought one Delta deer target.
I don't know anyone who bought another one.
I used to have that problem before I switched over to Jack Howard bows. Now I don't miss like that anymore! If you don't want to switch to a Jack Howard bow, here is a pretty quick and long lasting fix for your target.
Remove the plastic leg. On the foam body, up in the socket that the leg fits into, there is a plastic cup that matches the shape of the plastic cup on the leg. Pull that out with pliers or cut it out if you have to.
On the plastic leg, cut off ALL BUT about 1" of the plastic cup that extends up into the socket of the body.
Get a drill and drywall screws. Put the leg back on the body in the proper orientation and temporarily run a couple of drywall screws through the foam and into the 1" flange that you left on the leg cup.
Get a can of Great Stuff expanding foam from your local home center. Turn the target upside down and spray the Great Stuff down into the leg though the hole where the ground rod goes. Take a clothes hanger or other similar wire and keep knocking down the foam inside the deer leg as it expands so you can get more in. Otherwise you can drill a hole in the plastic leg close to the socket and insert the filler tube from the Great Stuff there. Shoot it until it is full and let it set up overnight. Remove the drywall screws and you are ready to shoot. This has worked great for me.
Luke
Ive done that to many times to count. Its agravating everytime. Whos that fella modeling the Delta deer leg?(LOL)
Never again, will it happen to me!
hey Don, thanks for the encouragement ;) lol
