Hello all,
I have an old Howard Hill Archery catalog and on that 2nd page is Howard Hill's very impressive Kill List. I was wondering if anyone else keep records of everything they killed with their bow? I do, but only have 2 rabbits, one feral cat, and 5 Armadillos on it so far. Not too impressive I know.
In HH's list he has all sorts of things like Chipmonks and all. He had a gift that is for sure to have been accurate enough to have killed all in that list, even if it is over his lifetime. Some of those things I just would not kill just to see if I could hit it though. I had a chance one time to shoot a chipmonk with my bow ffrom just a few feet away. I chose to shoot a pine cone near it and hit it. So I reckon I could have hit that chipmonk too, just could not bring myself to do it. Any of y'all ever make a decision like that?

Sure; I keep a list of everything I've killed with bow, rifle and shotgun (but I leave off chipmunks, raccoons, coyotes, etc.). It's nice to look it over when cabin fever has set in or when the hunting is particularly tough. Plus it's a good refresher for a failing memory...
Nope. I'm not good at keeping lists. I start a new fishing log each year and lose it in the truck by June.
I dont keep a list but I keep a photo album. I try to get a pic of every think and on the back I write the hunts infomation on it.
When I owned a timber tract in S.C. I posted my kills on an aerial map of it. The farm was 350 acres and in 5 years, I was hunting less tha 15 acres with the exception of turkeys. You wouldn't believe the pattern that developed with deer. I keep a mental list of all my hunting and out door experiences and hope they will get me through the sunset of my life. My wife is a scrapper[scrapbooker] and really helps a lot. She makes me a srapbook of any hunt I make pictures on. I keep a journal on some of my longer trips.
I keep track of all the deer I've killed by scratching a tic mark on my buck knife sheath. My father won that knife at a muzzleloader shoot way back in the 1980's and gave it to me when I started hunting in 1986. That year I killed a small doe and the tic marks started. For sentimental reasons, that's the only knife I've ever used to dress a deer :) but haven't added to the tic marks for a couple years now :(
I have keep records on all deer and turkeys I have harvested with all weapons, it's not too many but fun to look back and remember some hunts. I list the date, time, weather conditions, location, weapon, species, weight, antler points, beard and spur length.
Started a hunting journal awhile ago.
I don't think Howard Hill actually made a list. I believe HH archery complied the list from the text of his detailed bowhunting diary/journal.
Haven't in the past. I hope someday to be good enough, that I begin forgetting what I've shot!
:biglaugh:
yes, I keep a record of the deer I kill and update it at the end of every season.
I've only had my longbow for a season and a half now so that list fits in my tiny little head. One rabbit, one groundhog and one deer (sounds like a song).
I keep one, it has the weapon animal and distance of the shot.I went through it and averaged my shots and was surprised to find out my average shot was 17.6 yds.
Hey CCH and all,
Good morning. I have have arrowed 2 rabbits, 5 armadillos, and one feral cat. My distances were: Both rabbits, around 5-10', the cat around 20', and the dillos from 10' to around 20-25yrds. I have not put those in my little list, but I think I will add the distances. Makes it more interesting.

Whish I had kept a list or journel, I should start.I always kept track of the number of deer but nothing else. Working on 66 right now.
Some like to scribe them on a tree like Daniel Boone:
"D. Boon Kilt a Bar, 1803."

rabbit_buster Ya got this Archer Beat!! I Do Have Some Pictures that my Son so Gratefully took of the Critters I HAVE Shot at, and Missed. I told him I was just "Practicing to See How CLOSE I Could Get Without Killing Them".... They Dont Stay Young for Long. :archer:
Suttles - Sounds like my wife - she is a photo taker and keeps scrapbook records of all of our deer. I just started working on a mapping system for our land. Working on building it up for the future!

I'd prefer to list the ones I let go or miss. The kill list is pretty long and I might not like myself if I thought about all lives I ended.
Rabbit,
That is funny!
I keep a list of big game, started back in 67 with a button buck on Dec 3 in Necedah,Wisconsin. You never forget that first one but with by list I can look back at my 5th,26th,55th,100th etc. I also list my equipment, bow, arrow, broadhead, weather, distance of shot and recovery and hunting companions. Brings back Good memories!
I realy wish I had started a hunting jurnal 38 years ago but I did not o the tails i could tell. Widow
I did until i realized for "me" it was not about the Numbers...or inches
Do like to keep plenty of photo's from the hunts though.
