Hello all,
I wasn't sure where to post this question, but here goes. I put some Celtic designs on the outer side or face of my longbow. I just wanted it to have my own sort of touch on it. Any of y'all do that?
I wish I could post a couple of pics of it, but this won't take pics off of my computer.
Freebooter
I hope you can see this because if you can you'll understand why I want to see your designs.
God bless,Mudd

Hey Mudd,
It did not come through. I am going to try posting a couple showing me holding my bow. I am dressed up in m Hyborean archer outfit (yes, I am a devout Conan and Robert E. Howard fan). BTW, I have lost around 45lb since these pics were taken.
Anyway, you can see the design I drew on my bow. (//%3Ca%20href="http://s636.photobucket.com/albums/uu86/Freebooter_01/?action=view¤t=Picture010.jpg"%20target="_blank"%3E%3Cimg%20src="http://i636.photobucket.com/albums/uu86/Freebooter_01/Picture010.jpg"%20border="0"%20alt="Photobucket"%3E%3C/a%3E)

Well, I see mine did not show up either. I give up!

Ha ha ha!! Your legs don't look as bad as mine. The picture I wanted to get posted was one of me in my kilt. You are one brave soul my friend.
It is so very true... no guts... no glory!!
Thanks for sharing.
God bless,Mudd
Thats gotta be chilly in a tree stand.

Mudd no one's legs look as bad as your's
:goldtooth: :goldtooth: :goldtooth: :goldtooth: :goldtooth:
I guess the sword is handy when the bear you just shot, gets mad and attacks!
Is all your gear battle-ready?
Imagine running into that guy in the woods?
Armed like that you better not say a thing. I like the designs on the bow.
Thanks y'all,
Remember, I have lost about 45lbs since those pics were shot. And yes, the sword is a battle ready Viking sword from Museum Replicas, Ltd., the "Stickelstadt" sword to be exact featured in their catolog. The helmet is 18 gauge steel and is a Viking helmet also from MRL. Too heavy to wear long and not for archery either, the center piece blocks my vision in one eye when I draw my bow like that. The costume was just a hobbie, a supposed outfit from Conan's Hyborean world. Just for fun. I don't wear any of that hunting, just wear regular cammies, etc..
But now, for real, when bow season first starts on Oct. 15 here in Alabama sometimes it still so warm and humid, or at times I should say, that one time I shot a rabbit wearing nothing but flip flops and jogging shorts, no shirt, nothing. But that is Alabama's fickel weather for you.

Freebooter thats too funny I guess you hunt dressed like that ?? also what is a y'all :knothead:

Hey Gordon,
No, I don't hunt dressed like that. That is a hobby of mine, Conan's Hyborean world. But in that last post I mentioned how one time when it was downright hot I walked a dirt road in nothing but flip flops, red jogging shorts, and my bow and quiver. I killed rabbit like that.
And "Y'all" is short for "You All"!
"Y'all" sounds downright "purty" don't it?!? LOL

Sorry, couldn't resist! :p :p
Anyhow, back to the original question, I haven't painted up any of my bows, but your's sure looks cool and gives me ideas!
Now that is scary. :scared:
What local 'Bama beverage are you'ns carryin' in that canteen?
Let's see that kilt picture now, Mudd.
ALABAMA....huh ? I'll be darned...I inked out the words PICK A SPOT on a bow one time...but that's as far as I've gone...really
Hello all,
Actually y'all, I wasn't hunting like out in the woods on a hunting trip. I had a buddy that had a trailer a 1/4 mile off the road, the spot and yard was carved of the woods and his driveway was just a sandy dirt driveway out to the sho'nuff road. I was visiting, shooting a few arrows with him and told him I was going to stroll up his drive way (which was lined with scrub growth) and back and see if I could spot a rabbit or something. So I just took off walking, flip flops and all.
By the way, one moon lit night he and his wife came out on the porch to drink a cold one and enjoy the night. They let their toy poodle out to romp and roll in the sand of their parking area. And lo and behold, while they sat there watching a huge owl swooped down and took that tiny dog off. Donna was crying telling me about it a day or so later, saying she could hear the dog screaming and yelping as it flew away and up to the tree tops and off in the woods, then it sounded like or seemed to be in one spot (probably lit in a tree) and suddenly one last yelp and silence!
She was upset and all but that was the funniest thing to to picture them sitting there, smoking a joint and drinking their beer to the light of the full moon, watching that tiny poodle waller and kick around in the sand and a big owl swoop down and take off with it. I can just picture that scene! It is still funny to me!

I paint a right eye (ocular dexter as opposed to ocular sinster - evil eye) right above the grip so the bow can see where it is shooting. seems to work well. :)
rusty
I've tried every way I know of to post the kilt picture... no luck but I did send a copy to a friend asking him if he would try it. It may yet appear if his old eyes don't go out on him from having to look at my legs..lol
God bless,Mudd
Hey Mudd,
Go to Photobucket and upload your pic from your computer to there, then you can put the direct link here when you click on "image". tThat is what I finally did.
FB
Hey Mudd,
BTW, actually I have thought of getting me a kilt many times, and still plan on it when I can afford it. I like the informal look with hiking boots and jacobite shirt as opposed to the formal affair. But if I could afford all that I would have the formal affair also to wear to formal events and/or functions. But to outdoor events like the Scottish festivals they have here once a year I would rather wear an informal kilt s I described. I want to get my kilt in the Bruce Tartan, since I am descended from one of the Septs of that Clan.

This isn't working.. I feel like a retard..lol
But when this page opens if you look on the left side of the page you can just click on the thumbnail and it'll open. I have the knack of taking the simple and muddying it beyond recognition.
Sorry for the hoops you have to go thru just to test the strength of your eyes.
God bless,Mudd
Whew, glad that did not work Mudd!
That medieval costume would work for deer hunting, just stand in an opening in the woods and be very still. When the deer sneak in to investigate what the heck it is - twang!
Nice designs on your bow. Ed Scott of Owl bows does some great artwork on his bows and Mike Yancy of Pine Hollow does some fine designs too.
Here is a take down self bow called Nettle

Hey Mudd, is this it?
Dang, I forgot to add that I like kilts. I bet they are comfortable to wear when hiking or something, sort of cool and "airish".
FB
I think you should paint a design on your dress, too.
Cool keep those pics coming,I don't have any self bow but I'll try to find some friends' one
if I showed up at elk camp in that outfit ; I'd probably lose a lot more than 45 pounds...just sayin' ...I do like the bear tracks on the self bow though
i haven't painted on a bow, but i wood burnt onto my dads recurve, if i could go back in time i'd smack the crud outta myself before i did it though. it looks ok, but i regret doing it. i can try and get pics if you really want but i'm not to proud of it :(
Well I really like the helmet. That would look good while riding the motocycle.
Terry, that bow looks great.
and I feel sorry for them and the poodle, I see nothing funny in that.
One year at Cloverdale a guy had one of those all black BlackWidows they used to make. On the back side of the limbs he painted roses with leaves and vines. Coolest thing you ever saw.
I feel bad for the folks who lost a dog to an owl. We had a bald eagle kill a cat, and it aint a funny scene.
The birds have to eat too, but I feel for the pets.
I like Terrys bow with the bear prints.
Cool bow, Terry
Have you killed anything with it?

Did I miss something or did this get posted in the wrong thread?
God bless,Mudd
interesting!
Hey Mudd, it ain't the wrong thread, you just missed that paragraph or something where I told everyone about a friend of mine let their toy poodle out one night under the light of a full moon. While sitting there drinking a cold one, he and his wife were shocked when a huge owl (probably a Great Horned Owl) swooped down and flew off with their dog. It was screaming and yelping in the night sky as the owl flew off into the woods. One last yelp from the top of a tree a ways off let them know the owl had killed it. It was sad. The woman was broken hearted to say the least.
FB
That's OK Mudd, I confuse myself sometimes.
I owe an apology to boznarras. I'm truly sorry. Freebooter is correct I missed that part of his message.
That clearly reflects the fact that I am way too self centered. I try to remind myself every day that everything isn't about me. My wife agrees.
I'll do better.. most of the time.
God bless,Mudd
Mudd, don't be too hard on yourself, no apology needed. I always enjoy your posts and your obviously healthy sense of humor. Tell your wife I said so.
I got to thinking about that cat. It was a male cat that had a hard life. He was given to us by a fisherman friend who came to go moose hunting, and had named it Crab Bait.
He was missing half his tail because an otter bit it off. He was so covered with grease and oil we thought it was a gray cat until we washed him and found out he was white.
The cat had lived in the engine compartment of the troller, because it was warm there, but the noise had made him pretty deaf. This probably helped the eagle fly down undetected on Crab Bait's blindside as he sat on our bedroom deck railing. The eagle did not carry him off, but the impact with talons killed him instantly.
I buried him in the ground on our property, despite what his name was.
That's respectful of you Boznarras!
To many pets have to hard a life, as many good people do as well!
Freebooter, some of the people at my archery club practice with Norse swords, spears, polearms and shields.
I can try to get a picture uploaded some time, if y'all like.
Hey Sveind,
Yep, I do love edged weapons. I have practice a little bit with my Viking swords, katana, etc.., mainly just playing around. But as a former Civil War reenactor I learned the sabre drill from Cooke's Cavalry Tactics and got into the habbit of practicing with a cavalry saber off and on over the years my self. If I had to actually fight someone, I would choose the Cav sabre.

Believe me folks, Mudd has been seen in worse outfits. There was this time at MOJAM when he got all wet from the fire truck..... :scared: I still have nightmares.
Hey Mudd! Just funnin' with ya buddy!
I can see if a man had any insecurity about himself
he could have been slightly damaged at such an awesome sight.
It was as I best remember a good way to cool off but so very wrong on so many different levels. A wet white shirt and a Breech clout doesn't make for a very pretty picture iffen it's me wearing them....lol
God bless,Mudd
