I am being tested to the endth degree. I am under my surgeons orders to NOT draw a bow for 6 weeks, that's jan 21st. That's not so bad you say... well add these facts into the equation.
My Howard Hill Big 5 actually arrived yesterday. I cleaned it and waxed it then hung it on my wall. Later in the day I called Jeff to see if he wanted to come over. His cell phone battery had gone dead so he didn't get my message until late last evening.
Fast forward to this afternoon Jeff came over with his stringer in hand. I stood and watched him fling arrows. Man! What a beautiful sight. I had it in my hands strung more than a few times. It took all I could muster not to just fling one 1 arrow. I was so grateful it got dark when it did.
I am a better person for showing restraint.. I just know I am but I sure as heck didn't like it...lol
God bless,Mudd
You're a better man than me, letting another man shoot a new bow before you can, but at least you got to fondle her first. LOL! Congrats, and stick to your rehab, lots of time to shoot after properly healing-up. I always like seeing your posts Mudd, that is a "Fine" looking dog there in your Avatar.
Be strong.... be strong...
What are the specs?? I may head over and "harang" a few arra's for you! :D
70" n-t-n and 50#@28. I know I'm under the weather and my eyes hurt. In fact every part of my body hurts except my hair but I think it might be painful to onlookers. But even in this sad state my judgment would say it shoots faster and hits harder than I expected.
God bless, Mudd
PS Thank you for the kind words about my buddy Trouble with the Truth aka Liar
I would have caved for sure.
from one Hill shooter to another ... Be Strong brother ..... !!!
the bow will keep just fine and you'll be thankful that ya followed doctors orders come mid january.
ben
"You're a better man than I am, Gunga Din"
Congrats on your new Hill Big Five, but be patient and follow doctor's order.
congrats mudd
Good for you but do what the doc says. God bless.
I have one that is 47# and it too shoots faster than I expected!
I hope to get my wife to take some pictures today so I can share with my trad-family what's got me so pumped. Thanks everyone for taking your time. I knew if I didn't share this with someone I was gonna pop...lol
God bless,Mudd
Hang in there Mudd, the day will come.
I would have called Craig and had him hang on to the bow for a while, I'm not that strong.
Eric
Ha ha ha!! Eric I couldn't be this strong without some help. I got this from another archer and wasn't about to let this deal get away from me even if it meant having to be tortured by having it here to drool over. I called Howard Hill bows and was able to get the bows birthday and where it was originally sold but not the name of the buyer. I was startled to learn as of Jan this will be considered a 20 yr old bow. I was bummed because there's most likely not more than a couple of hundred years left in its hunting life.
If I am correct the handle wrap, shelf and side plate are original and has very little wear more just a little dirty.
God bless,Mudd
Hang in there Mudd your doing good!
Way to go Mudd. Gotta love them Hills. Still waiting on mine. Maybe today....
Loose
went thru the same thing a few years back after my neck surgery, looked at her hanging for about two months.
it was real sweet when one day when no one was home I took her out into the back yard and loosed a dozen.
Mudd, good for you to show such restraint. It will be worth it when you can enjoy that Big Five and not be damaging something. Those older Hills are sweet. I just picked one up on here from Ken Denton down in Texas--a Tembo made in the 60's and just about like new condition. The handle wrap did not even show it had ever been shot. Man it's nice. I love Hills--have four of them. You do have to get you a back quiver though to complete the outfit :biglaugh:
Hello,
You s
Hello,
The above message posted accidentally. Anyway, you say it seemed to fling a fast hard hitting arrow? I have a Howard Hill Archery catalog and have always wondered how their bows shoot. Now I am thinking of ordering me a bow from them. Did your buddy say was it smooth, much hand and between the shoulders shock, etc.?
Freebooter
The feedback he gave me was... nothing negative felt anywhere.
I have sent an e-mail to another friend who has as much or more archery experience than I do asking him to drop by and shoot it for me. I know that Trap(DD) will know exactly what I'm looking for and want to know.
I just hope he has time in his schedule to get with me soon..lol
I'm feeling a little like the impatient buzzard..."patience! Hell! I wanna kill something!"
God bless,Mudd
Mudd,
Look into doing "hindu pushups" for your rehab. I swear by them to keep my shoulders in good shape for shooting, and I've been shooting 85#s for more than 18 years. Google it to check out the correct form. BTW - I'm a big Hill fan as well.
I don't have half your reserve. Better be careful at least so you can come back stronger quicker. Told you didn't I Muddster? Killer bow!!!
Tommy Boy is right. I learned them as "Japanese Push Ups" but they are one and the same. Proper form is the key ------ no cheating!
Been doing them since 1973, and my 75 and 80 pounders still feel nice and light.
Mudd,
Just send it up here. Dontcha know that exercising a bow in the cold helps the bamboo lams last longer :readit: :D :D
Great bow! I love my Hills.
I got a 61 lber that I absolutetly love.
I cant believe you can keep from shooting it. I would have had to shoot it at least once.

AND you can't shoot it until mid-January? The clock is ticking! You need a different doctor or something.
:bigsmyl:
Congrats on the sweet bow - I hope it perforates all kind of game for you.
post some pix please.
shoot it you wuss
I have to ask you Robert.. what if that one shot cost me getting to shoot for years to come. With that in mind, I can live with being a Wuss. I can't or don't want to live without being able to do what I love.
I am stronger for it. But thanks for the encouragement.
God bless,Mudd
Who was the bowyer bud?
I called Craig and he had it in his records according to the serial number so I'm jumping to the conclusion that it was him.
The bow will be 20 starting Jan 2010, It was originally sold at some big shoot/show in PA. Again I am making the assumption that means Compton.
God bless,Mudd
Come on now Charlie, you know every thing I know about it so give me your thoughts. Better yet drive over here and critique it for me..lol Yes, that does mean I'd let you shoot it..lol
You're giving me too much credit. LOL I'll give you a holler next time I'm in Columbia for a Doc's appt.
Would love to fling a few.
