As many of you know, I recently have taken over the Bow Hospital portion of Belcher Bows. Jim and Sandra purchased Sky Archery, and have been so busy with that venture that they could no longer devote the time needed to the Bow Hospital.
A trip to Michigan a couple of weeks ago brought a trailer full of additional equipment for my shop. I have spent the past couple of weeks constructing a spray booth and rearranging space to accomodate everything. I am finally ready to go.
I still have some work to be done, but the shop is fully operational and now open for business. I thought I would give you a little tour of what I have been up to.....
Welcome!

Just like at the doctors office, the first order of business is to weigh in...

Due to the limits of my shop space I made the spray booth a three sided affair with a moveable back wall. While spraying it is fully enclosed and ventilated to keep the finish dust free, yet the temporary wall folds down and out of the way when not in use.

very cool
I have a Leon Stewart Longbow, 68 inches that needs to be refinished. Is that something you can complete, and if so, what is a ball park charge for something of that nature?
Bob.
Thanks for sharing!
Bob, There is a price list on my website
http://www.prairietrad.com/page30.html
A basic refinish job is typically $100 for a standard flat finish, and the bow will look good as new when it is done.
The biggest portion of the Bow Hospital work is weight reduction and refinishing. I can also do repairs, replace tips and overlays, and reshape grips depending on the bow. If you have any questions on a particular bow and what might be able to be done just give me a call.
fantastic workshop, beats the kitchen table hands down
That great to know, If I buy a beater and it is beyond my abilities I now know where to sent it!
Very nice Whip...after what I have done to my bow this year you may be seeing it this Spring.
Couldn't stand retirement eh?
Good Luck, I know I'll be sending you some bows
I refinished my Hill once. Learned much but mostly learned I don't want to refinish a bow. The experience makes a $100 sound cheap to me. LOL. Nice organized shop. Now to keep it that way...
Thanks, I will likely send you my bow after the holidays.
Bob.
Congrats and good luck for a good mission
Man this is such a great website, you can get anything you can think of on tradgang.
Joe i bet you are about to be a busy man my friend.
Looks great Joe
Like Biggie mentioned so much for retirement :D
Thanks for posting this! I'm glad to know these services are available in case I need them.
Dr.Whip, congrats Joe on your new venture. Great looking shop you have there.
Joe, Will there be any "Pretty nurse" in the recovery room? Don't want no "male" one! :biglaugh:
I hope someday to have a shop as nice as yours, good luck, glen
Great looking shop and set up for bow hospital Joe! If you are looking for bow refinish or repair, better call Joe soon - he's bound to get swamped this winter.
Joe,
You have as nice of a shop as I have seen in a long time. Good luck on your new venture.
Hang on a minute....didnt you retire recently? Looks to me like youa re busier now than you were two years ago! ;)
Now don't get up set Doc but I have to ask ya,,Do you take Blue-Cross Blue-Shield??? My deductible is paid for the year. Will you accept what they pay??? Beware Congress is watching. LOL
Very nice,well organized.
Leland
Good looking surgery room! What kind of spray finish are you going to use?
Looks great, Dr. Whip!
Oddan has a great idea! You could offer bow healthcare plans! For a regular monthly fee someone could send their bow in for checkups. Of course, there would have to be copays and maximum coverage levels.
Nice shop Joe.
I wish you the best. I'm sure you'll be covered up with work soon.
Billy
Whip, I believe I will be needing your services after the holidays. Good to know you are there. Thanks
Shick

Very nice set-up!
Josh
Looks pretty good, what kind of turn around time on a refinish?
Nice set up and good luck in your adventure. Maybe your retirement will end up like mine.......working twice as hard for a LOT less money but finally doing something my heart is in. Have fun!

John, a straight refinish in a flat finish would be a couple of weeks. I will always try to give customers an idea of what to expect before they send a bow in.
Thanks for the reply,Whip, that is the only way to do business.
Good stuff Joe! Congrats brother, congrats!
Good luck Joe! Set-up looks good!
Joe, Congrats on the new business!!!
Thanks for the tour of your shop too. Curious to see if you do more refinish work or # reduction.

Snag, I'm using a catalysed varnish product. It is a very strong, durable, and good looking finish, and is used by some very top end bowyers that produce some of the highest quality finishes I have seen. I have both a flat and a gloss product available.
It is some pretty potent stuff, and that is why I wanted to build a good quality spray booth and do things right before starting.
Hmm I bet you start to build bows soon as all that nice equiptmnent all you need now is some forms !! good luck on your venture I am sure you will be kept busy!!
Whip,
Looks great. I bet you get many patients heading your way !!!
Best of Luck
Wow! This is exciting for customers and the vendor.
I am going to send you a PM; but get ready for a patient!
