My brothers and I would like to do a trad javalina hunt this winter or early spring. Can someone recommend an outfitter in TX for us that you have good experience with?

Tim, I;ll check email in a few minutes but I have to say on open post that 7th Age Bowhunting is booked beyond capacity for javelina hunts till October of 2010. Due to a closed season on February of 2009, we are booked full.
Now booking a few spots for turkey/hog hunts in Spring and of course the night hunts for Summer hogs and gator gar bowfishing are just around the corner. Thanks as always for looking at 7th Age Bowhunting. I very much appreciate your business. Curtis

One thing to think about is that most every hunter from states where it snows try and come to Texas in January and February. Remember that Outfitting is a job for the guy who is hosting the hunt. I hate to say it but this means that many outfitters will fill every available hunt date with as many hunters as they can fit on a property. This is the thing I take great pride in. I absolutely give every ranch a 10 day rest period between hunts and I keep multiple properties to reduce pressure. I sacrafice $$$$$ to do this to keep your hunt as good as I can provide. I have outfitters you can call for a hunt but chance are you'll be hunting some highly pressured animals this late in the game.
What I'd do is scan through the sponsors list here and find Texas Outfitters. Ask questions like: Whats the population of animals in relation to acerage? How many animals do the average hunters see during the course of a hunt? (Don't ask kill success! Every hunter is at a different level.) How many hunters have been on the property and when were the last group there? Is there a time of year that is better to hunt?
I do not know Ken@ Mahaska but just the fact that he is a traditional archer would make him a top of the list call for me. I'm going to speak with him soon to get acquainted. I also see other hunters here on the site saying good things. Trad Outfitters understand trad hunters needs better than the average outfitter. Don't overlook Jerry at Pedernal Bowhunts either. Remember to ask questions then go from there. Sorry that I can't help more than this. I'm still trying to find enormous properties with no close season on javelina. All my ranches have a season.
For all you northern archers: Hunting Texas in January and February requires booking 4-6 months in advance many times with good outfitters. Book early if at all possible. Be safe and have a great hunt wherever you do go. :thumbsup: CK
I'm heading out to hunt Javelina with Ken at Mahaska in February, I know a group of guys that go every year and they rave about the place. After talking with Ken several times I can tell he is a great guy/outfitter.

Thanks Curtis, Whip and Grandpa. I appreciate the advice and I will try to book earlier next time. We have just gotten into trad hunting and wanted to try a hunt to keep our skills sharp. I'll talk to the other guys and who knows, maybe someone will have a cancellation.
Well if you just got into trad, then hogs are what you want too hunt. A lot more of them usually and a lot more too eat when you get one.
The last Javie I got filled two gallon ziplocks when I boned it out.

Barry and Gene did have a few openings for hogs. I don't think there are any javalina on the ranch they are using this year though. This would be a great hunt.
I have hunted quite a few years with Kent Ostrem of Mahaska Bows at his hunt in West Texas. It's a great hunt in the mountains of west Texas, & he has a lot of the guys repeat the hunt every year. If you kill out on javelina, try the rabbit hunting, but it can be addictive, just bring a lot af arrows.

I have never been on this hunt, but this might be the year I go. I heard a lot good things and its very close to my house. Good price, too. Lots of Texas trad shooters are going.
