Just made my first shafts from ramin and poplar dowels, got all my arrow making supplies in the mail, made myself a dip tube......happy happy day until:
I can't seem to get my new J-8 Martin fletching jig to put the cock feather in the right place. I've tried every setting. One arrow will coem out right then the nest is off. The directions that came with the jig are crap. My new arrows are not very pretty now. Anyone run into the problem before?
Not sure what a J-8 is, but I would have told you to get a Bitz. Pretty sure it's not you, it's the jig.
The J8 Martin Fletcher is a plastic get up that cost about 30 buks. I did read that the Bitz clamps will work on it.
Is the rotation nob clicking into the goove on each feather?
Yep. It has 3 settings (obviously). One is blank, one has 3 small lines and one had 3 larger lines. i thought i had it down to teh 3 smal lines as the cock feather but after one good arrow it was off set again. If I hd hair....I'd pull it out!!
I have a boehing plastic jig and you have make sure you feel it slip into the notch when you turn it and make sure your knock is seated correctly after every turn. Then you have check that all of the magnet is making contact with the clamp plate ,be careful not to hold the clamp by its wings when setting it put the bottom in first then the top.Hope this helps
Thanks for the info jon2!
I have a Martin jig also and I know exactly what you mean. What I have found that works for me is to ignore the little lines and just rotate the knob all the way clockwise or counter clockwise depending on your initial first setting. Just rotate it the same way with each feather and they will come out even. Hope this helps.
Don't forget to rotate it after the 3rd feather of the first arrow, before you start the 2nd arrow. Hap
I new someone out there would have the same Jig! So are you saying you just eyeball the spacing and don't pay attention to the jig snapping into place?
Hap, I thought at first that that might have been what I was doing, but i have even marked the jig where I thought the cock feather should go. :knothead:
