Title: Rut #2
Post by: frank bullitt on December 15, 2009, 01:17:00 PM
Its the middle of December, new moon, and suppose to be pretty cool here this week in the midwest!

Most of the corn has been picked in my area, and I had high hopes for a better late season, possibly second rut!

Anyone see any signs of this in their area? Hoping to get out a couple days this week, myself!

Good shootin, Steve.

Steve, the bucks are working scrapes again here just within the last few days. Last year I saw more rutting activity mid december than November.  So far this month I have not seen any chasing and most of the does are herded up. The scrapes being worked again does have my hopes up though!

Steve, I didn't make it out this weekend due to commitments at church, but everyone I talked to said they were seeing alot of activity. One of the young fellars that shoot with us missed a big one on Sunday. Gonna hit it hard this weekend. Shoot straight and good luck. Oh, I will send that string to you next week! Mike

Bucks are chasing the does here in Pa.I have been seeing bucks chasing does since december 4th.I shot my buck on december 5th as it chased a doe past me at daylight.I think the rut here in Pa is late this year. The buck i shot was in full rut and he smelled so bad i had to soak my hunting clothes in the washer.I could smell him from my stand!

Thanks for posting guys! It's good to hear of some activity around.

Got into a stand close to home at around 5:00 p.m. yesterday, and right at sunset a small 6pt. came into the strip of woods north of my stand. His nose was to the ground most of the time, but only came as close as about 60 yards.

It was a good, short time in the woods! I'm looking foward to the rest of season. If the snow holds off, I think it could heat up!

Get out if you can, and good shootin,

Steve.

In Arkansas the scrapes were opened about a week and a half ago.  They are about down to the "nitty gritty" now.

Saw a nice 10pt where I work chasing yesterday, and on Dec 12 had a small buck come under me who had already shed his antlers. Looked like the had probably just came off. He almost got mistaken for a doe!!!!

Cool? Well it's been around 5 degrees (before wind chill) around here lately! Frozen nose hairs while hunting is not fun. It's supposed to warm up to the 30's this weekend but I have 2 family parties to go to this weekend.

Tom, sorry to hear you have to go to parties over the weekend.  :help:

Suppose to be in the low forties tomorrow, here, but I need a n-nw wind. So if it's cold, it probably will be in that direction.

Oh yeah, I got wood!, What do you need? Osage, Locust, Ash, Hickory....

Good shootin, Steve.

I've seen a huge increase in sign in the past week.  Lots of scrapes and new rubs. Saw several bucks running with does.
