Earlier this season I posted a pic of my friend Todd and his Maine Moose. The whole hunt was videoed and the vidieopgrapher just posted the hunt on You tube. Here's the link;

It was the next to last day and Todd had shot a a huge bull earlier in the day and had only one arrow left. Eldon Jandreau called in the bull using a Montana decoy and actually pulled the bull away fron another cow. Todd's shot was at about 6 yards shooting a Hummingbird longbow, 60# and No Mercy heads. After the shot Elodon called to the moose and although fatally wounded (if you look carefully you can see the arrow buried to the fletching) the bull stopped about 15 yards after being hit and went down. Good video.
Nice Bull! Thanks for sharing Bill.
Great video, and a great end to the hunt. That's what it's all about right there. Thanks for sharing. I'm trying to gather info for my own hunt for moose and would be interested in the particulars of his experience. Thanks again fro sharing.

Bill, that was a great 10 minutes. Thanks
Shick
What a video! thanks for sharing with us.

Is this just about perfect or what? Thanks
:clapper:
Awesome video.
Thanks for posting. I didn't see the shot, though. Did I miss it?
That was "Awesome"
That was a dream hunt of a lifetime!
That was cool thanks for sharing!!! :clapper:
Man I could watch that a million times absolutely AWSOME. I've been to Eldons Place three times bear hunting he has a first class setup. Thanks Bill
That was cool.....why did he only have one arrow???
Outstanding...!!!
Kevin
Bill, WOW....neat video. One question--what is the story behind only having one arrow with broadhead left in his quiver???? Got to be a story there somewhere. Did he leave all his other arrows in another moose???? That's what it sounds like
I'm envious, I would really like a hunt like that.
Loose
Incredible,good for you!
WAY TO GO! LOVE IT!
That's pretty darn cool, thanks for putting it up.
Very nice
Loved it
That is nice. Thanks for sharing Bill. But you have to answer Dave Mitchell's question.
What is up the one arrow?
Great footage and great hunt.
Bill, Todd gave me a heads up on this earlier so I had already watched it before I came on here. Good stuff. Eldon's looking old!
That was GREAT!!!!!
Great vid
Man I want to get a moose tag so bad!Next year I'm going to start putting in for NH as well as VT.
WOW that was great and i hope to some day hunt those moose. Please tell us why you only had one arrow its driving me nuts. :banghead:
Bill that was really cool, thanks for sharing!
I too wonder about the one arrow. I also had trouble figuring out what they were talking about when the video seemed to have nothing to do with all the talking.
Its a two part video. You have to watch the 8 minute one first for it to make sense.
Man that was cool. Congrats..
Cool hunt!
Someday
After watching the 8 minute video i can see why he was so relieved after he downed that second moose. He never gave up and made it happen, that was great.
OK, OK....why did Todd have only one arrow? He went on the trip, I believe with only 6 specially made heavy carbon arrows....700+ grains. He killed the moose on Friday, his fifth day of hunting. Before he shot the moose he did he had encounters with 65 bulls! Not all were shooting situations but he had a lot of action. In fact that morning he shot at a 60 incher and missed when it turned as he shot. I know he had at least one other miss. He had also shot and hit a moose the day before. He aimed low as one would aim for a heart shot on a whitetail. In actuality it turned out to be a brisket shot...too low. There is another video on Youtube with that days hunt and the lost trail the next day. He had action all week long and he may have had other arrows back at the B&B he was staying at but I really don't know. He described the hunt to me as the worst roller coaster ride he has ever had in a hunting situation but was more than pleased with the outcome.
Greg...yes, Eldon, along with the rest of us is starting to show his age.
By the way, Eldon Jandreau of Hunter's Point can get access to tags for nothern Maine moose. If anyone wants to get in touch with him you can PM me or email and I'll get you in touch. He's better than 90% success with trad bow hunters.
Wow! That was awesome! Thanks for sharing.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWESOME!!!! One could be so lucky. Congrats.
Great Job...Congrats
Next time he may want to take 8 arrows, instead of 6. :saywhat:
That was great. that bull died reeeeeeeely fast.
That was great! Thanks for sharing with us-Mike
True Hunting,What dreams are made of.Fantastic !
Very Cool!!

Nice...that was tucked in nice and tight to his shoulder...and stuck all the way up to the fletching
My dream hunt. Cool.
Awesome video Bill.
Thanks for sharing!!
TTT
Congrats, and thanks for sharring.
Great Video
Great! I'm still hoping for my draw. Maybe some day I'll get a chance to experience something as exciting.
that was great,i would love to do that some day.nice shot and good laughs.
I can't help but wonder what he would have done if he had wounded that animal - he didn't have another arrow to finish the job if it had gone wrong!
What if he'd hit its spine and paralysed its back end? How were they planning on dealing with a bad situation?
Will we now see more people going out after big game with just one arrow?
nice Moose. Congrats
freefeet, no, probably not. That is a good question however. I think I would have gone back and rearmed before continuing the hunt. That's an individual call, however. One of the guides with him was Jimmy, a retired warden with the Maine warden service. I know what Jimmy D. carries with him so the animal would no doubt have been put down quickly if necessary. Moose hunts are either weapon--gun or bow. It sounds like a great hunt.
I talked to Todd last night so I have the accurate story about why he
had one arrow. On Thursday he shot at a big bull and was sure he killed it. Everyone at the local diner watched the video of the shot and presumed it was a heart shot and a dead moose. Todd only has a four arrow quiver so the next morning when they went to look for the moose he grabbed his quiver with three arrows, one of which was a judo, and went off to find his dead moose, even though Eldon thought the shot was too low....which turned out to be the case. The drive to the moose hunting zone where Todd had to hunt was about a 40 mile trek so when they did not find the bull Todd wounded the previous afternoon they resumed hunting and did not want to go all the way back to town for one more arrow. Later that morning Todd got another shot at a 60" bull which turned as he shot which resulted in a miss and a lost arrow. He now had one arrow, late in the day. It was continue to hunt or stop for the day because to make the round trip before dark was impossible. Todd only had one more day left to hunt so they continued to hunt and the story unfolded as it did. My only question to Freefeet is, if you had several shots and misses at an animal and had only one arrow left in your quiver, would you shoot it or not? And Dave is right, they had a firearm on hand so if the moose was wounded, as you suggest, they had options. What I do on a hunt like that is keep an arrow box with me at all times just for situations like that. You never know when you will come up short.
I was hunting caribou in Labrador with Eldon several years ago. I did not know it at the time but I had a cataract in my dominant eye and my shooting was somewhat erratic, especially on the first shot. Then my brain would adjust and my second shots were always where I needed them to be. I got into the same situation as Todd after a few misses. I had one arrow left and one caribou in front of me. I shot and killed it. Stuff like that happens.
that was awesome, thanks

No, i definitely would not. Even more so if i'd lost all my other arrows to misses and wounds i most certainly would not have shot that last arrow.
Each of us answers to our own ethics, and those are mine.
I have know Eldon for quite a while, and he is a very good shot with the LB.
He use to win a lot of 3Ds up north. I have shot with him a number of times and it's fun trying to keep up with him and his long legs lol.
Congrats on the Moose and thanks for sharing.
Great moose. Congrats to Todd! Hunting moose in Maine or Alaska is on my bucket list.
