flu flus are too slow....just use regular arrows... your old junk arrows would be best ..with a blunt or a hex head....

I use a mix of both, and I even carry "throw away" arrows. Old beat up ones, or cheap ones from  the craft store. Some of the stuff I hunt them in....man its tough enough to recover a rabbit, let alone an arrow.

That being said, I got all of my arrows back, except for one at the last JLMBH. I was panting, bleeding and catching my breath when a rabbit ran over my foot. I turned and shot back at it, missed, looked at the nasty rose bush my arrow landed in, and kept on walking.

Inexpensive arrows are just that though, and you cant expect exceptional accuracy with them. A lot of times a hit or a miss depends on "threading the needle". Besides, can you ever have too many arrows?  :D

If you're new where do you accumulate "old" arrows?

You can buy wood "stumper" shafts from Twig Archery pretty reasonable.

Check out the recent TBM. . . good article.  Guy used 1000 gr fiberglass (like bowfishing) with no fletching and just a field point.  Shoots right through the brush with no hang ups.  Good out to 15 yds or so.  Makes sense. . . I may try it.

Iam a serious longbow hunter of the wiley rabbit-- I have been doing so for over 15yrs.  I hunt w/beagles, a least 50 days a yr.--thats alot of hunts w/ alot of arrowed Rabbits.(The number of misses is astronomical, but not germaine to your quest.)  More often than not, if you hit one w/a fieldpt. or a blunt- the rabbit will run w the arrow in him, a short dist., at which pt. it will fall out-- brush will pull it out.  Now the Rabbit, unencumbered by the arrow, soon finds a hole, wood pile etc. End of story-- a dying or dead unretrievable rabbit.  This reall SUCKS.  What you need to do is to make that blunt so it does not fall out, but rather serves to catch the rabbit up in the brush--because it has pierced him sideways and being perpendicualr to the brush - it hangs him up.  I just cut an x on my blunts about 1/4"-3/8" and bend the metal back to make flanges, be for gluing them on. These flanges will prevent the arrow from being pulled out as the rabbit flees.--You are going to be able to retrieve that rabbit just about every time.  Rarely, very rarely will one get away. This said, I use old broadheads just as often--I have never lost one this way-- kills them clean. I hunt by myself 99% of the time, so the use of broadheads is of no danger to others.  I would not reccommend them otherwise.  Good luck--its great fun and generally no one gets hurt, including the rabbit-- who will be there the next day to provide another exciting chase/hunt!

Cheap'ns can be had at any big box/hardware store.

Just go through the dowels and find the staightest in your diameter of choice...

nock them, point taper and screw on and glue a nut or two, fletch to your eyes desire ....fling at the furry thing in the brush!!

Cost me about 95 cents a piece by using scraps/leftovers of whatever I had around....your mileage may very.

What ever kind of arrow you choose just take ALOT of them along. Haven't done too much rabbit hunting with trad gear but my son and I went through every arrow we had. Lots of fun!!

Good idea Chuck on the blunts.
