Title: Rick Lanham custom T/D recurve?
Post by: raideranch on December 14, 2009, 07:39:00 PM
Has anyone ever heard of this bower or shot one of his bows?  How do they shoot and what are they worth?  Thanks

I think he was out of Missouri, but I don't think he is active any longer

I know Rick and have owned and shot several of his bows. He does fine work and the bows look good especially when made from some of the pretty exotic woods he uses.
I was earlier in my pursuit of what kind of bow was going to be best for me when I bought one. I guess in some ways I'm still on that quest even after all these years because I'm getting ready to try something different again.
I decided his riser were heavy in my hand or at least I liked a lighter in the hand style bow.
I tried a different style that took me to the extreme the other way with a Korean style bow. I think it was carbon limbs covered with birch bark. I kept thinking this feels like I'm holding a pencil..lol
I'll start down a new rabbit trail when the HH Big 5 arrives. Well, I'll at least start with the looking at it phase since I can't draw a bow again until Jan 21st.

I hope this helps. I can't tell you his prices but if I wanted one I found that I liked and wanted depending on the condition of the bow, $300 plus wouldn't scare me away from it.

God bless,Mudd

Rick lived in the Columbia Missouri area while I was there about 10 years ago.  I have no idea where he's at now.

I owned one of his bows for years and really liked it.  It shot well and was a good looking bow as well.  Unfortunately, I had a string break while shooting a year or two ago and the riser didn't survive the resulting mishap.  I wouldn't be concerned if I were going to buy another one from the used market, however, based on the experience of two people I know, I wouldn't buy a new one directly from the bowyer.  In both instances Rick took a substantial down payment but still had not made their bows two years later.  All they got was excuses.  I don't know if they ever did get their bows or not.
