Thought I would just throw this out for discussion.
I see a lot threads that talk about "older bows." We classify some as "Vintage", some as "Classics", and some as just "Older" bows. I'm looking for your thoughts on:
When are they just "Older" or "Vintage" bows?
What makes them a "Classic?"
What would you consider to be your favorite "Classic Bow?"
Classic means, a perfect example of a certain style, and applies to all kinds of things. Vintage means basically, of a previous era or time. Older....means older 8^). Like me.
I use all three at times because all three can apply.
I'd say the terms older and vintage are synonymous and for me they would be anything made from the 20s through the 70s.
A classic is an older or vintage bow which stands out in the crowd for beauty or excellence in performance. You could name a Bear Tamerlane or a Hoyt Pro Medalist as classic target bows. There are a pile of classic hunting bows and I'd have to name Bear Grumley, Howard Hill longbow, '59 Bear Kodiak, Red Wing Hunter, Howatt Hunter as examples of classics.

I'm sure glad you did not throw in the term "antique".
I like to think of myself as a classic, older gentleman and not a vintage antique like ******.
Classic? hmmm........ no I'm more of a grumpy old fart who mover to Alaska so I don't have to yell at the neighbor kids to "get off my lawn!" Heck I don't even mow the "lawn" any more, I just stare the grass into submission.
reddogge, I would agree with your choice of some "Classic" bows. I do like George's definitions but does anyone care to opinion on when the "previous era" starts for stickbows?
George, I think you're quickly becoming a "Classic", at least around here.
Antique is one I didn't think of, Blackhawk. I guess that whould be when it's just hung up for display and not used anymore.
"Grumpy old fart"... now how could we possibly equate that to a beautiful bow?...just maybe the one pulling it. :D
With cars we refer to vintage as a decade, if that helps; like, "it's a 50's vintage Chevy."
Nostalgic is a good description of items appealing to older hunters. They in turn pass along that revered connection, stories included, to younger enthusiasts. Easy to see how it might become magnified to vintage, rare, or collector's quality.
