Just read the Colorado thread and he stated he has saved up point so he can hunt any zone. How do you earn these points and What is the purpose of the points.

In some states you must draw a permit to hunt. Typically you apply for a permit if you do not draw a permit you earn a preference point. This gives you an advantage the next year. Some states are under such demand that 3-4 years of preference points are required to draw a permit. Take a look at moose or sheep and you will see that the demand at times drive the required points up to be certain of a drawn permit up in the double digits. Clear as mud??
