Post by: ron w on December 11, 2009, 05:46:00 PM
Sent a money order to Apex Predator for "U-Finish" bow blank today. Going to get one of his "Cumberland" slight string follow Hill style longbows Should be an intresting project. Has any body else done a bow blank. I did a Dyrad a while ago and was pleased with that.Looking forward to getting Marty's handi-work!!

I have not completed one of Marty's, but I think you will be pleased with your choice.

Haveing watched some of his finished bows and build-alongs on this site, I have seen his work just get better and better; so what better way to sample it than a blank that I can have a hand in also.

Ron,

...good luck trying to get your bow's tips and the finish to look like his!!! (lol)

I bet it will end up being like Lay's potato chips for you, you can't have just one!

One of our Hill list members did one of Apex's blanks, and several, including me have done one from Hill Archery.   My first bow effort was one.  There is an excellent blank-along posted on the Howard Hill Longbowmen site:

Good luck with your effort.  However, be warned...  it's one of those slippery slopes you hear about.   It starts out gently with "I think I'll try finishing a bow blank," and the next thing you know your kids' college fund has gone to equip a bow shop and you're cutting your neighbor's bamboo garden down in the middle of the night and begging money on street corners for "just a bit more glue...".  8^)

Dick, the good thing is the kids collage fund is already spent and she is teaching school in Ga. So now its fun time, build a Hickory bow, do a bow blank and do some hunt'n, all time well spent, or thats what I tell my wife....lol
