Started out with a wheelie 4 years ago at the age of 47. Switched to a Bear Montana Longbow this year still without a kill to my credit. That is, until a Button Buck came my way this past Saturday.....came in about 18 yards to the right of my tree, quartered away, and I took my shot.....100 yards later I tracked my first kill, a double lung shot no less .....what a feeling....My next goal is to try to do so on the ground....I have been on the ground a lot and am having trouble having anything come close enough for an ethical shot....but I will keep trying....Thanks to all on this site for all the information and willing guidance to greenhorn's like myself....
congrats, still looking for my first.

great shot! I have shot them from the ground but prefer a tree for whitetails as they are sooo good at seeing me
Good eater!
That's a fine trophy and it'll eat a heck of a lot better than an old, tough big buck. Fine job
That is one fine trophy. All traditional bow kills are trophies. You can now say you have taken a deer with a longbow, the bow of our forefathers and one of the oldest weapons of man. It feels like a mighty good acomplishment, feels like you did something very special and challenging for yourself. Welcome to the club, brother of the bow.
Longbows & Short Shots,
Jeff

Button buck with a Bear Montana - perfect! There are fancier bows and bigger horns, but there is nothing better than what you done. Congrats sir.

It doesn't matter how big or small it is. You worked hard and put in time to get it so it's a great deer.
By the way, my first trad deer was a button buck as well.
Great job!

Awesome job on your first deer. Nothing like doing it the hard way, right off of the bat.
Congrats. . . never forget that one. Might as well been a Boone and Crocket. Every bit as special :clapper:
Great job. Keep up the ground efforts. It's very enjoyable and you know you have been hunting when you finally get one.
Congrats on a job well done..... :readit:
Small just means you have to be a better shot and you apparently are a better shot! Congrats!!!!
A great day for you, and a great memory made. Many happy returns of the day to you.
Great start keep going and don't let up. Congrats. LCH
Good job Mark, congrats!
Thanks to All you Guys....Big Time.....
Today I was on the ground as I continue my quest for an "Eye Level Buck" or even a doe......had an Awesome experience playing cat and mouse with a doe......she knew I was not supposed to be there but wasn't sure what I was.....and bobbed and weaved her head to try to get me to flinch, which of course I didn't.....when she put an 8 inch tree between me and her I scrambled my body into a shooting position before her head cleared the narrow tree.....she came to a stop, staring strait at me as I was on one knee and at full draw.......when I released I knew right away that I forgot to "pick a spot" and shot toward the middle of her full silhouette ......the arrow hit a tree behind her a fraction of a second after it sailed about 3 inches over her back,,,,,,I knew my mistake, but came home all pumped up anyway due to the adrenaline rush of a traditional experience.......how did I not take this traditional hunting up many years ago in my life ? .....51 and in my 1st year of this....I hope I can do this for about 30 more years....!!

Wow Mark that is awesome. You have the fever, isn't it great. I am 51 also and have been doing this for over 30 years and feel the same way you do. The excitement of hunting at eye level is unmatched. Truly a one on one hunt. Best of luck to you. And I don't care what others say, I watch the eyes. Maybe don't look straight on, but the eyes don't lie.
I'd say your determination will certainly get you those many years and well deserved
Congrats!!!! First one is always a good time.
Congrats

I can relate to that comment. I converted back to Trad two years ago and I am having the best time I've ever had!
Congrats. And what do you mean small, it is the biggest one you ever shot.
You will never forget this one regardless of the number and the size that follow.
Thanks for sharing.
