Title: Final report on EFOC/fletching thread?
Post by: jdemoya on December 10, 2009, 11:13:00 AM
What was the final report on the EFOC and fletching thread? The original thread does not have any posts past April '08.

Was there another thread after the original one?

Thanks.

Be safe.

God bless,

José

jdemoya,

I have not seen any results from anyone on that recently.

I have another thread running on the subject.  The is titles UEFOC How? .  I am presently working on 2 dozen carbon arrows with the intent of finding an arrow around 12 gpp that will achieve 30% FOC.  For my 55lb longbow that will give me a 660 grain arrow with about 400 grains up front.  I am using 500 spine beman shafts with a 100 grain brass insert and 175, 200, 250, and 300 grain heads ti run various tests.  Keep track of that thread and you will see some results down the line.  The 300 grain head gets me up to 29.69%, at least in calculations.  I will have to determine the real results when I finalize the testing for actual FOC.

The next test is going to be using oak dowel internal footings and working with the 500 bemans and 600 spine arrows to find out if it is possible to make a really tough UEFOC arrow in the 35% range or not.

Clay, what kind of fletching are you using? Are you using the short/low profile feathers?

Thanks.

I buy my fletchings full length and cut them with a 3" Lil Chopper in left helic.  They are a fairly low profile fletch and work great.  I am also working with some 2.25 inch feather fletchings that I ordered from Gateway. They are also left helic.
