Im only 14 and i dont know wat size bow i need i've shot mostly recurves but wat size and brand do i need? help me
Lupe...if your are just starting with traditional equipment...you want to start with a very low weight....40#s at 28"....work on establishing very good form before even worrying about trying to hit a spot ..a solid bow arm, a repeatable anchor, and hold your bow steady until the arrow hits the target....reach your anchor point and pull thru when you release...A longbow or recurve will work fine..it is your personal choice...
do you have any traditional equipment yet?
That's a good question and you'll get a lot of different answers on this great site!
If possible, try to test as many different bows as possible, just be sure to get a bow that isn't too heavy because you will not be able to shoot it as well and it can be quite frustrating for a beginner.
First of all try to determine your actual draw length. If you have a yardstick around the house, you can place one end at your breast plate and stretch your arms out and see where your finger tips hit towards the other end. This will give you a pretty good idea of your draw length. Secondly, you want to match the proper arrows for your bow weight and draw.
Most production bows are rated at a 28" draw, but at your age and depending on your physical attributes, you may be several inches shorter/longer.
Maybe try to try out some bows in the 35-40# range at your draw to start and you can always work you way up a bit later, once you learn correct form and are hitting your target well.
This is a great place to find out about all the great things that Traditional Archery can bring to you. You'll find many fine archers here that will address your questions and help you on your journey.
Don't get too concerned with which brand, there are lots of nice older bows and some attractively priced newer bows that will be great and won't be too expensive.
Finally, I would like to send you a couple of items which you can keep if you like. One is a great book by Sam Fadala called "Traditional Archery" and the other is a really cool DVD called "Beyond Adrenaline" which captures some great traditional hunts.
Please ask your parents to contact me with your information and I'll send these out in time for Christmas!

Adam i also have several items i could send you like a brand new glove, several tabs, field points all free of charge.
And Adam if you need a good cheap bow i have some Bear Kodiak Hunters that would work perfect for your age. I would sell you one of these a lot cheaper than what i paid for it just so you can get started.
If i wasnt so broke right now i would just send it to you but i am going to sell a few of my bows because i really need some christmas money.
Good on you for being interested Lupe. But some words of advice for all of you.
Speak to his actual parents before sending any equipment and if you sell a bow do the deal through a parent or if sent for free have it mailed to a parent. With the laws being as they are and stuff passing over statelines, you will be saving all of yourselves some possible legal headaches.
we'll definitely get Adam taken care of.... first we need to touch base with his parents/guardians for the ok...
Joevan..thanks !!! and I'll wait for an email and try and touch base with Adams parents..
Same here, I've asked the parents to contact me @ mid-southdealers.com
This will be good stuff for all!
