i have a sinew backed bow /the hide glue is cracking up /i tried reapplying the hide glue but it cracked up worse/ i thinned it down but i want to cover the backing to protect it /do i use wax or what is good ?? where is the best spot on the site to ask these questions ?
I'd put rawhide over the sinew or jsut an massie epoxy finish. Hide glue has a tendancy to do that as it drys if you get it on too heavy.

Pretty common mistake , to much hide glue in the sinew when applied, next time use your fingers to squeeze out a bit more of the glue and the lateral lines will not be there. Wingnut is right on with the rawhide over sinew idea, then you can paint or leave plain and I would recommend Tru-oil for finish over the whole thing.
I am partial to putting copperhead skins over sinew. Just MHO
God bless,Mudd
thanks for the help/we have no copperheads, but we do have diamondbacks
The diamondbacks work and look fine over sinew. Infact, the diamondback skins I have used are thicker and more durable then copperheads, they just have a differt look.
thanks walt /my name is lee francis maybe we are related
