I always took pot-shots at squirrels from my bedroom when I was a kid. One afternoon I opened up the window, strung up my K-Mag, nocked a Bear Razorhead, and loosed one on a big fat tree-rat. There was a weird sharp cracking sound and the arrow just missed the squirrel.

I had forgotten to open up the outer window too  :banghead:  and the broadhead had punched a jagged round hole right through it.

The door to a Highway Dept. truck that was parked behind my stockade fence. Thankfully the supervisor didn't make me pay for it but he got my vote at the last election. He's a "great" guy!

Nothing!  You always need to be sure of what is behind and around your target.

Ok I will admit one. When I was a kid I was shooting arrows up in the sky to see how far they would go, and one came down into the swimming pool and through the pool cover.

My good Buddy was getting ready for a hunt behind His house one afternoon. Got all of his hunting clothes on and wanted to make sure he could draw his bow back with the extra sweater he put on.

He nocked a arrow and took aim at the light switch across the room in the kitchen. He was shooting one of the most decked out wheelie bows You ever saw. Well he made it to full draw but the extra large gloves he had on were just thick enough to set off his super-sensitive release.

It was one of the best shots I ever seen Him make. It took the very end off of the switch and drove about two inches of broadhead and shaft into the stud the switch box was mounted to. Luckily it was at enough of an angle that it didn't cut any wires.

The following year I had him all set up with a K-Mag and a tab.

I accidently shot a deer once.I was headed back to the truck, after a windy morning hunt. There was some place I had to be, later that morning.SO I had no intention of shooting anything I was just out to be out.Im easing along the edge of a CRP field toward the truck. All at once I see two little does walking throught the tall weeds right toward me.So I knelt down.I guess they did not see me because the wind blowing the tall weeds around.I always have an arrow on the string, when going in and out,for just such a situation. When the lead doe gets to around 5 yards,I think Im gonna see If I can get drawn on her (again no intention of shooting).Well I get drawn and the second I hit anker the arrow is gone.Imagine my surprise. The little deer did not make it 30 yards.WOOPS!OH well I did have a tag.

Wooden frame on the screen for my living room picture window.  Pretty good penetration.  Ruined an arrow, but an inch to the left and I would've been replacing the window.  I also missed my bag target and hit the pile of dirt behind it.  When I pulled out my arrow I had impaled 2 baby field mice.  Looked like they were on a skewer, LOL!There must have been a nest in there.  It was my first trad kill!!!

In my old house, the shed, poured cement wall, shingles.  One arrow I yakked so bad it missed the wall entirely and went skittering out front and I lived in a developement with small yards.  I was scared stiff as I went out front expecting a dead neighbor.  I found the arrow across the street in a neighbor's yard.

I dead centered a cable tv cable at a friends house when we were shooting his 3d's from a ladder stand. The cable was strung about half way between the stand to the 3d target. The arc of the arrow caught the cable just right. His mom was home at the time watching tv.  She was wondering why the picture went all snowy!.........  Had to get the cable guy out to fix it.

Shed wall several times inside living room wall in the first house me and my wife ever rented I bet the point is still in that wall (with a compound). But my best story comes from my dad when he was a kid he and a friend snuck some of my grandpas hunting arrows out to shoot and this is where it gets bad they were shooting by each others feet as they often did (they called it chicken)   :knothead:  well there was ice on the ground and his friednd slipped he shot my dad right in the forehead luckily it only penetrated about a half inch.Dad said he looked up and the arrow was sticking straight out      they pulled it out and dad hid the wound and never told until he was an adult. This was his go to do as I say not as I do story for me as a kid!  :dntthnk:Bill

I regularly throw these little 6"x 6" blocks of laminated foam around the yard and one day while out shooting them. I missed one and had my arrow hit the ground and I swear in slow motion watched my arrow skip off the ground and puncher one of my brand new tires on my enclosed motorcyle trailer. Darn I just put them on that thing! Ha Ha live and learn..

At denton hill last year my buddy skipped one right off the back of a pig target and up onto the highway.  I think its RT 6?  Luckily it didnt hit a car but still scary.

I had a scary moment at that shoot too.  I put one off the belly of a doe target, and then it hit a rock and took off straight up in the air towards the ski lift.  I went looking for my arrow, and someone on the ski lift yelled and pointed it out to me.  It was sticking straight in the ground about 15 yds from the ski lift.  It was absolutely a crazy double ricochet that led to it but I will not be taking any shots in that direction next year.

A book in the bookcase, when I was a kid, but it wasn't an accident. I just had to try that Bear broadhead! Don't remember which book it was... Mom never noticed.

Used to be in an IBO club. One of the wheelie shooters slipped while drawing, with the bow pointed up at about 45 degrees. The arrow sailed over a stand of timber to the road about 100 yards away, and center-punched the door of the only car going by the area. The driver was not amused.

I've got 14 yards in my basement from corner to corner if I shoot through the spare bedroom doorway on an angle. I have a 160" buck next to the doorway whose chin I have to shoot under. Two years of shooting every day finally caught up with me this week. I did a flinch beyond all flinches and shot him in the throat. It stuck into him just like a 3D target.......I was a little disappointed with the penetration!!!

I bought a wheelie bow for my oldest son and he wanted me to try it out for him. I don't know squat about wheelies and don't want to, but I shot a few arrows at my foam target. I wasn't sure which pin to use. Apparently I picked the wrong one because I whacked the folding stool I had the target sitting on. It hit the metal leg attachment piece just right and snapped a nice carbon arrow right in half.

I put the damn thing in the case and haven't touched it since. He's going to have to figure it out for himself.

My daughter is right handed and left eye dominant. Once in a while that left eye takes over and she launches one past the target, past the 4 x 8 plywood and carpet backstop, and into the garage wall. The dog kennel used to sit behind that wall, so the holes didn't show. The dog died, so we gave the kennel away...then I had to explain to the wife how those holes got there.

Once, when I was a kid...long, long ago...I was out stump shooting in my grandpa's timber. All I had at the time were some cheap wooden arrows of unknown spine with field points on them and my 45# recurve that I had built in shop class a few weeks before during my freshman year in high school. It was in the spring, so I was hunting mushrooms and stumping along when a cottontail jumped up and ran up the hill in front of me. I drew on him with no intention of shooting because it was obviously out of season, and he was quickly way beyond my "effective" range. He stopped about 40 yards away and suddenly an arrow was arcing through the air. It smacked him right in the back of the head! I could probably fling arrows until doomsday and never duplicate that shot. I don't know whether it was lucky or unlucky, but I think I was more surprised than the rabbit was.

My face. I was shooting blunts for the first time ever. I shoot at a big ol haystack with hay criss crossed on it and I hit the end of a bale (where it is really tightly packed) and the arrow flew back and hit me in the face because I was shooting from around 10 yards. Luckily it missed my eye but I did take a nock to the forehead...

Over 50 years of shooting there's too much to list everything, but some highlights are, the side of the garage(with a broadhead, when my dad was inside working, scared me silly, I never did tell on myself), 4 wheeler tire, a bouy ball we use a a swing, bird feeder post (3/4 inch dia steel) cows (and no, I won't tell more about that), the 1/4 inch electric rope we use as a fence for the horse (how a field point can hit dead center and bounce back off of something that small is beyond me, and numerous times! from 40 yards!) My wife shot the garden hose just  a few days ago too. There may be more, but the statute of limitations isn't up yet on those.  :scared:

I've had an arrow go thru a 3/8' sheet of plywood and then partially (split on the edge) thru a board on a privacy fence and clatter out into a public street.
I probably hit an old hole in the plywood.
I have since screwed a sheet of 3/4" plwood to the fence and have a big sheet of dense foam behind my target to keep from hitting the plywood in the first place.
I shoot a little better now, too. That helps! ;)

Back when I was shooting wheel bows I was checking the draw length of te bow by standing on the string and pulling up. I wanted to know how much arrow was sticking out past the arrow at full draw. So I put an arrow on the string and stood on the string as I pull up on the bow.  The string slipped off my foot and the arrow shot me in the clavicle.  Lucky for me it did not have a tip on the insert and left a 1/4 hole in my shirt and did not penetrate my skin or break my clavicle.  This was done with an 80LB cam bow.

Things I have shot while shooting in yard/house.

Shot a hole in the radiator of Dad's truck. Arrow skipped off the top of the target Dad made us, turned about 45 degrees and "Plonk" One radiator.   :scared:

While trying out my "new" bamboo shafts with my composite bow, and a new thumb ring, let one go "off to the right" right into the concrete basement wall! Those bamboo shafts are tough! splintered the last 3" of shaft-otherwise shaft was alright.

Poked a hole in the side of my chest freezer, luckily didn't hit the cooling coils. (Nearly shot a deer twice, there)

Carbon shaft into the same concrete wall mentioned above. Compound bow and a release that broke under tension. Carbon shaft didn't survive. . . at all.

And multiple hits on the "safety backstop" of my target butt. This thing kills most every arrow that it has to stop.  4' x 8' sheet of 3/8" armalloy steel. There are NO pass thrus!     :knothead:

And then there was the living room light . . . .but that was a 7 iron!   :)

This was'nt trad. But it was freakie.Along time back 25 years maybe.A bunch [10 maybe] of us was shooting in this guys yard. When a guy shot and arrow[broadhead] it went through the corner[side] of the bail.It hit a propane tank off a lantern it was full.It started spinning off the ground about a foot for a few seconds.Took off arching up about 10 feet comeing down about 30 yards away.Toward his wifes car is old cur dog was laying about 5 yards from the car.
He hear it whistling toward him.He almost got out of the way but it nicked him in the tail.Bounced off the wifes door of her fairly  new Dodge car.Leaveing a basketball size dent in the door.Bounce back went under the car and went up and down a couple times before it ran out of propane.
We all just stood there with our mouths open. Before we busted out laughing. When we stoped we started realizeing we were closer than the car was and it happened so fast no could have gotten out of the way in time.

I shot an arrow right between my dog's legs when I was in high school.  I had a big 100 lb dalmation at the time and when I'd shoot, he'd stay right beside me pretty much the whole time.  My dad drove up and the dog goes to say hello.  He followed dad inside as I continued to shoot.

I was shooting at a bag of wood chips from a bunch of different distances.  I moved back to about 60 yards and shot a few arrows. Right as I let loose on one, I see the dog run out from behind the tractor, which was about 20 yards from my target.  He was running to where I had been earlier and was on a direct line between my arrow and the target.

I remember it like it was in slow motion.  This big goofy dog loping across the yard; an arrow speeding toward the target.  My heart was in my throat and I was thinking I've just killed my buddy.  Fortunately my shot was low.  It hit in front of the target and right between his legs.  If it had been a foot or so higher, I'd have shot him through the guts.

I made sure he was tied up after that.

Many holes in moms shed (compound) and a few holes in my garage wall, also shot a stuffed little dog that had been set down infront of the target(neck shot and I just pushed the stuffing back into the hole) a few spare tail lights from my step sons jeep and a wax ring for the toilet. Talk about pulling a shot and bad release. I say it was the beer! not that I drink and shoot though

(it was about 60 yards away and we both knew he wouldnt hit it) well he draws back and lets fly... perfect... one less basketball... one more butt whippin... for both of us... his dad was watching and after commending Wes on the shot he commenced to whippin.. needless to say we always shot at stuff we didnt want to ruin nomatter how far it was off after that... its been 15 years and he still holds that shot over my head.. well that one and a bluejay..... but thats another story..

I figured that an obsticle between me and my target would make it more of a challenge, all those clothes hangin on the line looked good, plenty of stuff to shoot thru and around I thought.
First shot would be between that pair of socks I thought, upon the release I saw one of the socks flip over the clothes line, I shot a hole thru the toe, second shot split the clothes line, I figured this would be a good time to quit.

when I was in high school we had some feral dogs running the neighborhood. They would get into the trash on 'garbage day' and make a heck of a mess.
I love dogs; but I was the one that had to clean up the mess; so I took an arrow with a field point on it; and put a rubber blunt over it.
Next time the dogs came in; I made a perfect shot on the ugliest dog in the group.
The rubber blunt however did not stop the field point; and the dog took off with the arrow hanging out screaming like crazy.
Naturally there was snow on the ground; I found my arrow and snapped it in two and put it in my jacket; and told the neighbors a car had hit the dog.
Tracked it right to the dog den under an abandoned barn...

OOPS. Don't have to miss to hit: something  you didn't want too....

I was helping my father in law bare shaft one time in the basement, we can get about 20 yds at his place. WE had set a a beautiful back stop and had a Block target set up right in the middle.

Now, we had been shooting for a while and his arrow flight was looking pretty good. He goes to draw, anchors and I see him flinch and the arrow is off! As it snakes through the air, the side of the arrow hits the top of the target
as it turns to head back towards us it catches the top of his card table and flies straight up into the big fluroscent light, pops both of the bulbs and the basement goes dark.

I found it to be quite amusing, him, not so much!

Killed an 800# cow just this year.  She kept getting out and crapping all over the driveway and concrete. So I starting shooting her with a blunt when I'd catch her in the yard just to put the fear in her. Well I walked out of the garage on my way to the stand and there she was again. Reached in my quiver real fast and took out the blunt and sank it to the fletching right behind the shoulder at 30 yds! My heart sank to my shoes...I grabbed the wrong arrow!
Equipment Notes.. 50# Hatfield Recurve with Magnus-tipped cedar arrow and a whole bunch of stupid.

Well about 35 years ago a few of us were shooting at balloons indoors and we get this bright idea to tie a balloon to the end of an arrow shaft and shoot it at the target. It went totally wild in a giant spiral and slammed into the ceiling, shattered a flouresent light and then hit the floor before breaking in two. Good thing it was only a 25# recurve. We only tried that once.
Last week in league while at full draw with my new whisperstik, the guy next to me drew with his bow high and hit his release, sending his arrow into the steel roof of the range. I almost had to change my shorts, but I managed to hit the bail.

My favorite target is an old tennis ball out the back door of my house. It's slightly downhill so the ground is my backstop.About three weeks ago I was shooting at the tennis ball and hit it,and instead of sticking in the ground like it usually does,it bounced and went another 20 yards still with tennis ball attached. The family cat was calmly walking back there and didn't see the arrow coming until it was about 12" from him.Didn't hurt him although his eyes looked looked they were gonna pop out......Missed a Youtube moment.

Long story short there was a Rabbit under my truck this year while I was working a fire tower. I had just made a hell of a shot on a Rabbit the day before and was feeling pretty cocky. So grabbed my blunt sat on my arse and promptly sent my arrow into the truck door. Put a dent in the door, shattered my arrow and deflated my pride. Worst part of all was the Rabbit didn't flinch and stayed where he was. Little bugger must have known that there was no way I was going to take that shot again!

Ive got 2, but they are from my compound days(hope thats ok). Was shooting in my basement over winter, trying out a new release I had. I was adjusting the trigger pull, trying to make it real light. Well I was drawing the bow and about mid draw off goes the release. I have a walk out basement, with 2 windows. I hear this crisp "tish" noise and I could hear my wife yelling, even before she found out. lol The arrow punched a small hole right thru the window and out into the woods(never did find that arrow).
Other time 3 of us were at a friends house and we were helping him with his bow. His serving was loose and the type of release he had(trophy hunter) had 2 steel balls that held the string. Well he was drawing his bow and off it went(as the string slipped between the balls). He nailed the cabinets my friends dad had built. We all freaked out, but my friend who lived there sorted it out quickly. He found the knobs his dad was going to use and we pulled the arrow and installed a knob where the hole was, and drilled and mounted the other knob in the same location on the adjoining door. Lucky for us it was in a good spot. The placement looked odd, but not horrible.

A few years ago (50+), when I was 8 or 9 years old my best buddy and I found a "real arrow" - an old cedar shaft with fletching remnants and a rusted target tip - that someone had lost in a brushy field we used to frequent.  A quick trip to a willow bush and a length of cotton string from the kitchen drawer was all that was needed to complete our tackle.  We soon became bored with trying to unsuccessfully hit anything with it but instead discovered the excitement of launching the arrow straight into the air and then running out from underneath it.  We were thus enjoying ourselves in my friend's backyard while the grumpy old guy next door who was always hollering at us for some supposed infraction was busy cutting his lawn we were supposed to stay off of.   A slightly misdirected shot resulted in a trajectory that put the arrow directly over our unsuspecting neighbor.  We watched frozen in our tracks as the arrow descended-- swiftly passing through a very small moving rectangle described by our neighbor's body, forearms and lawnmower burying itself several inches into the soft turf.  We were still motionless as he pulled the arrow from the ground, walked over to us, wordlessly snapped it in two pieces and  presented us each with half an arrow, turned and resumed his mowing.  Like I said a really grumpy old guy!

I'll save this list and check the names twice before going on any hunts.  Excuse me for being a bit cautious, but I have been shot at a couple times while hunting, had a broadhead fly my way after richoting off antlers at a longbow safari, and my neighbors boy (?), shot one into the air that stuck in my roof. And, I won't ever make the mistake of going rabbit hunting with Ralph again.

I was shooting down my drive way into the garage. It was about a 20 yard shot at an Ames Pillowtarget over stuffed with plastic bags. I had placed the pillow target in front of the freezer and for safety sake, I put a plastic garbage buket behind the ames target and in front of the freezer. I ended up shooting through the pillow target and the plastic garbage can into the freezer door. My wife was out shopping so I quickly put the bow away and the target and garbage can. I even painted the dent in the freezer door with white appliance
paint. I thought that it looked pretty good. Later when my wife came home she walked through the garage and immediately noticed the ding in the freezer door.  All that work for nothing!

The bar in my basement. I was trying to see if I could shoot from a sitting position and was shooting at a block target placed in front of the bar. Decided to move back a little. Bad decision. 12 yards, got good penetration. The arrow went through the wood front of the bar and just missed the stainless steel sink and pipes behind it. Thank God. The wife walked downstairs just as I was pulling the arrow. Ouch. The hole is still there.

"A few years ago (50+), when I was 8 or 9 years old my best buddy and I found a "real arrow" - an old cedar shaft with fletching remnants and a rusted target tip - that someone had lost in a brushy field we used to frequent. Like I said a really grumpy old guy!"

Steve, I want to hear more of your stories! I sure wish I could hear your grumpy neighbor's stories, too. He wasn't nearly as grumpy, or vocal, as I would have been!   :readit:

well fortunatly   :goldtooth:  and unfortunatly not much of my own stuff. I have had plenty of arrows end up on neighbors roofs. Luckily I only shoot blunts when Im not shooting at a target. I did bury and arrow in the neighbors garage. The reason I only shoot blunts now when I'm not shooting at a target. Plenty of squirells in my back yard. I wish my neighbors boxer that never stops barking. My own shed.I think that covers the majority. Maybe I sould stop trying to shoot the squirells out of the trees. LOL Nah it keeps them on there toes.

My friend was trying out my curve @ about 4-5 yrds from a 1 yrd target, managed to shoot over and deflect even higher from the sloped roof on my garage! The arrow landed three houses down, on someones lawn.. Luckily no one was hurt, and it was the last shot he tried that day!

My friend and I were shooting in the basement many years ago.  I shot through the target ( it was just a blanket hung over a rope) and poked a hole in the gas meter.  Yep, the part that had the gas in it. Gas was comming out and we couldn't turn the valve to shut it off.  Spent some time with my finger over the hole until the repair man got there and shut the valve. Had to put in a new meter also.
My mom said we could shoot in the basement anymore. That led to the arrow stuck in the neighbors house.

Well, I didn't actually "shoot" anything but.....

When I was a kid, I was stringing an old recurve using the "step through" method. The upper limb snapped clean off and the other 2/3rds of the bow "shot" between my legs and went right through the picture tube of the TV.

My Dad was NOT very happy when he got home!!!        :knothead:

(neither was I,come to think of it)

Well,I actually shot something of my dad's.I had to teach myself archery. In about 1956 when I was ten,I shot my dad's  big solid wood mahagandy Zenith radio/record player with my new fiberglass bow and arrow. The arrow bounced straight back at me.I will keep that tube radio forever as a reminder of my understanding father. He never even let on but the sizeable hole was right by the handle on the front and he couldn't have missed it.I lived in fear every day, though.

My wife and I were shooting in the back yard last fall. (she's new to archery). The cat walked past the target and stopped. I guess the wife thought the cat was far enough past and let fly. Center punched the cat. My first reaction was "why the hell did you do that!"
My second was "nice shot!!" Never did like that cat. My wife cried for hours and swore off shooting but she's shooting again and the kids still don't know what really happened to the cat.

In the 6th grade Corey Briner (surely he isn't a TradGanger?) and I were shooting arrows straight up and then running under them with a ceral box to catch them.  It was a lot of fun (adults must have been busy).  We retired from this sport when Corey caught one in the back of his hand. It didn't stick but it left a nasty divit. Oh, we're lucky it was (at least I was lucky) Corey's hand because we lived in a subdivision crowded with houses on 1/4 acre lots!

I hope there aren't any impressionable kids reading this tuff ... what am I saying, from the posts it appears we are still quite impressionable kids!

I have another but it doesn't involve arrows and I only tell it during Leap Years.

I was shooting really well this was about ten yrs ago. Like I said I was going through a period where it seemed I could not miss. I got cute and was picking smaller and smaller spots on my target. Well I decided I was going to shoot a cricket that jumped on my target it was only about a inch from the outer right edge of my target. I drew let it fly and my heart sank the arrow caught the outer edge of the target and in the blink of an eye and about 70 yds later my arrow was in my neighbors deck. Thank god no one was in the yard or on the deck. I never shot in that direction again. Yes I did have a good back stop and this is a wooded area. Just a freak accident.

Small propane bottle when I was practicing in the basement, what can I say cept I got tired & stupid, house stank of propane for over an hour.

My house, well it has the scar to let me know that 2 panels of 3/4" ply board is not enough back stop to stop an arrow.

Had a target frame I had made out of pipe a number of years ago. Hung the targets from the top and tight to the bottom. I only had so much pipe so it was a bit narrow.

Worked well for months with out an incident. I was shooting out around 30 yards and flat shanked one; off the pipe through the garage window then mysteriously found its way past the brush guard and around way more grill parts than I realized where there and into the radiator of the Truck.

I have a large back stop behind my target now.

I shot my barn many times but the worst was the neighbors slider----I thought I had a good backstop until I sent on off the back of my 3-d deer. The arrow then got even more arc when it glanced off the woven wire fence. I horror I watched in slow motion as the arrow arced another 75 yards and pierced the screen of the neighbors slider and came to a rest hanging there at eye level. Thank God no body got hurt. I don't shoot there anymore.

This thread is too funny! It also helped me recall a couple of Funny shots of my youth. We used to shoot Arrows from my neighbors yard high into the air up the hill towards my dad's barn. I aimed high to let one fly and proceeded to shoot right thru an electric line and the arrow penetrated 1/2 way. That arrow stayed embedded in the line for a number of years, and I often wondered what the lineman would have thought when he came upon it. Another time I shot a squirrel with a field tip, the squirrel ran up a tree and as me and a friend went to check it out, the arrow fell out of the squirrel and landed, flething up, right between me and my friend who were about 2 feet apart. Crazy times of our youth!

A couple of years ago I tried to convince a guy to get into trad archery, but he went into compounds instead.  A few days after he got all tricked out, I got a call:

"Hey, about how far will an arrow go?"

He had shot an arrow NOT ONLY over his target, but also over the neighbor's house behind him, in the middle of a suburban neighborhood.  He never found the arrow, and never heard a word from anyone.  God was certainly watching out for him.

It's ironic how I laughed at some of the accidentals posted on this thread...yesterday.
Well today I decided to add some height to my 4X4 foam target, so I took one of our dining room chairs to the backyard and placed the target on the seat(you know where this going). I shoot split finger and decided to shoot the first arrow three under from 20 yards and I promptly center punched the face of the chair directly underneath the seat. I can assure you I'm on the wife's "S" list. Lesson learned-good intentions can go south in a hurry.

I had to shoot it and what could be more fun than shooting straight up ! ( I've since learned ) I was in the local park shooting when a person on a bike rode by as the arrow was coming down. It hit his rear tire !! I was relieved and scared out of my pants all at the same time ! now I only shoot into targets with backstops but that still cant save the occasional fence board .

When i was younger, maybe 10 or so, my dad and i would shoot from the patio to a straw bale about 100 yards back across a little ditch in our backyard.  Beyond that bale was our big barn and the electric cable ran in front of the bale back towards the powerline/house. One day we were shooting and i asked him, "Our arrows are getting awfully close to hitting that wire on the downfall." his respnse was, "It seems close but theres no way will hit that in a million shots"  No joke about 5 arrows later i released and the air lit up with a mini-explosion.  The arrow had hit the wire and been re-shot by the firepower.  Thankfully the line was all good but the fild tip was completely melted.  Scary what that split second could do to a metal point

Hmmm, used to shoot a lot in the fire station I work at. We had a bag target leaning against the back bay door. Its funny, there are a couple of very large screws in the door in places you woulddn't think they were needed!

One evening I was out in the truck bay shooting, with my target bag leaning again a rack of fire hose. I shanked a shot and stuck an arrow in a 100' roll of 4" diameter hydrant hose. I simply pulled the arrow out and put an Out of Service tag on the roll, and wrote on the the tag "Leaks". OOS.

Learned you do not shoot a BHd arrow that is bent with no fletch!

I was at a camp ground, bowhunting Pungo many yrs ago. Found an arrow in the ground that had an old BHd on it and no fletch and was aluminum that was bent a little.

I told my friend I will just fire this thing off in the corn field. It proceeded to do a long curve heading back through the campground - to say the least I was puckered. I mean what do you yell??:???? DUCK! or FOUR!!!!!!!! This thing looked like a bad cruise missile.

Luckily God was looking out for me and especially the rest of the campers and this thing nose dived into the ground. gotta have that steering mechanism on the back end!

Used to shoot in the house a lot. I could get 14yds if I shot from the back of the couch thru the dining room and out to the kitchen. I had a 2" foam broadhead target and a down pillow for a back stop. I once had a field point go through both and had just enough uumphf to crack the blender. Cindy(wife) went to make marguiritas a couple days later and poured in all the mixers and turned to get ice, looked back and it was running all over the counter!! Needless to say she made me move all stuff out of the way, but still let me shoot in the house. Shawn

Once when i was still shooting a compound( and about 14/15) i had my release go off while pulling back my compound bow. I looked and looked for that arrow for a couple hours.
Next day i got called to the principals office ( high school was very close to my house) and was asked if the arrow he found in his rad was mine!!! It( the arrow) had bounced off our garage roof and managed to travel about 100 yds and lodge itself into my priciples car  freaking radiator!!
Not too surpisingly, i was in some serious poop!!!!   ;)    Bill

I swear this wasn't me, just something I remember reading when I was a kid.

I shot an arrow into the air
It came to earth, I know just where
Though aimed at a buck that stood afar
It pierced the radiator of my car

Well, when I was quite young my brother and I had really lousy fiberglass bows and even worse arrows. If I did something that pissed him off when we were shooting I usually took a field point in the back the next time I turned away. Of course that was always an "accident"  :)

This past winter I was shooting with my brother in law in his basement, and everything went without a hitch for the first several dozen arrows. We took a small break to adjust his wheel bow and when I came back, I must have been standing  very slightly forward of my previous position. By this time I felt pretty dialed in on his target so I drew back and let one rip. There was a loud crack as the top limb of my recurve came forward and smacked one of the floor joists above me and the bow kicked up. My first fear was that I had damaged my bow, but after a quick inspection, everything seemed fine so I went to hunt the arrow. The impact caused the arrow to go slightly right and about two feet high. The arrow demolished a ceramic horse figurine on the top of a bookshelf and punched  a hole in the wall of one of the cinder blocks that form the foundation.  It's amazing what a full length 2317 can do with some power behind it.
If I ever shoot down there again I'll bring a shorter bow.

I have it on expert authority that one TGer actually shot out the glass in his bedroom window while "deer hunting" from inside his house. It was...of course...during deer season, and the kill (if it had happened) would have been tagged and considered "legitimate". It's a tickle-me-ribs funny story, and I hate to steal a guy's thunder. Maybe someone can convince him to re-tell it!

I once shot by brother-in-law's boat. I didn't want it around anyway and it was a great incentive for him to move it. I did pay too have it fixed. Another time an arrow ricocheted off the back of a deer target and landed in the neighbour's pond. Not a good thing! The arrow was floating. Luckily these folks don't spend much time outside so just before dark I slipped over the fence and using my fishing rod I was able to cast and hook the arrow and return it to it's proper place in my quiver!! Note:Deer target was moved to a safer location!  :banghead:    :nono:

Years ago we had a neighbor with a few chickens that would always dig up our garden when we were not around, I had my target just to the back of the garden on the far end of our yard, I went out early one morn to do a bit of target practice and to my suprise there was a chicken just having a ball digging up our plants, he was at about 40 yards, so I figured I would scare him, I quickly nocked an arrow and about the same time he saw me and started making a quick get away as I drew and let fly, I've shot at cyotes and fox, along with pheasents many times on the move at half that distance and never connected, but that day the arrow flew true and that was one dead chicken! Thats a bit off subject, but I have also hit a few of our buildings over the years when using as a backstop, then I got wise and had a few loads of sand hauled in!

I was shooting judos in the yard. My in-laws garage  plenty far away, or so i thought. Shot and hit a flat stone at surface level of ground, hidden by grass, saw sparks and the arrow  skipped up like the darn thing was shot again and made a direct hit on in-laws garage with brand new siding. I grew up in a real small town in Indiana. it only had around 150 people total, no gas stations, no restruants, and only one stop sign.

We did have a nice baseball diamond about 1/2 mine north of town. There was an old abandoned railroad tracks running from behind our house up past the ball diamond, this was the area we wondered and shot stuff when we were kids.

When I was 12 or I had been wandering the old rail road tracks shooting at a little bit of everything when ended up out by the center field fence of the ball diamond and flushed a covey of quail. By the time I got an arrow nocked they were real high and about 20 yards out but I let one fly. I missed of course but watched the arrow sail all the way across the field into the roof of the blechers on the home side!

Strangely enough almost 30 years later that arrow is still sticking through the roof of the bleachers!

And no I never did admit it was mine until now!

We were shooting winter league in the basement of an office building.  The ceiling(floor of the main office space) was built with concrete beams stretching across the width of the basement.  One of the wheelie bow shooters had a new release,  well, you guessed it, he drew with the bow pointed up at about 45 degrees and as he started down, he hit the trigger on the release,  the arrow went straight ahead, hit the concrete beam and bounced straight back and hit him between the eyebrows.  Two little cuts from the nock started a meager blood trail to the bathroom.  He yelled at the rest of US for breaking his concentration.
I have a copy of Luther's Works on by book shelf that has a hole in the bindings-I think they come that way. It is  not a Holey book.

I have definitely buried my share into trees, even a judo head or two. Also, when re-fletching some arrows for a friend, I tested one into the basement target. But I hit a soft spot in the target, and shattered the arrow when it hit the concrete on the pass through. OOooops, time to get a new target.

The best dinger shot I remember happened many years ago, when our neighbor shot my stepfather's Suburu. His arrow skipped off the top of the hay bale in his yard, through our yard, and into the rear quarter panel of one of our cars. It took many years before his bow club quit teasing him about that shot.

I was shooting in the house on a rainy day. It was a fairly new selfbow of unbacked osage with sapwood back that had pulled itself into extreme reflex while drying. It was a super smooth, super fast bow. It blew up at full draw, sent the arrow through the kitchen window and into the gutter across the street. It could have been really bad. I got the window fixed before my wife came home, and yes, I told her what happened.

Way back when I was in grade school, I received a 35 lb fiberglass longbow and 1/2 dozen arrows for Christmas. Man, was I hyped! I dress up and went hunting in the best place I knew: right in-between the apartment buildings we lived in.

I quickly spotted a big grey squirrel and took the shot. Just so happens that the night before it had snowed, then rained, then froze. My arrow missed the squirrel (of course) and skipped a few times and hit the lower portion of a neighbor's screen door with bang! I hid for a few minutes, and when nobody showed (it was still pretty early in the morning), I low crawled under several windows, retrieved my arrow, low crawled back out and called it a day.

Long time ago, Browning Micro youth wheelie bow...

Had 3 bales of hay stacked on each other and a target in front of it.  To the side by about 5 yards behind this was a parts car, 1973 MGB Roadster.  Pulled back as normal and released but didn't release where I wanted it...  The arrow missed the target and went right through the tail light of the car, traveled 6" past the tail light and sheetmetal and pucked the field tip in by about a 3/8" into the aluminum shaft.

Good thing it was a parts car...  BTW: it sucks to be a kid and have a first bow and camoflauged arrows, I think I spent more time trying to find the arrows in the grass than shooting them.

I shot myself too when I was a kid.  Remember those red bows, duel shelf.  Well I had one and tried to shoot an ice chest.  The arrow bounced back and hit my lower lip.  Went inside and kinda tore up some gums.  Bad deal.
I was trying to clean the blood out of my mouth and figured out that I could squirt water out of the hole.  Good deal.  Then the natural numbing you get when you hurt yourself went away. Bad deal.

God Bless,

One day when I was I guess about 5 years old I had been buggin my dad all day to let me shoot my bow.  By late afternoon he finally gave in to my requests and he got my bow and arrows and stood me about 20 yards back from the hay bales.
He then said,
"Now don't put an arrow on the string and don't pull the string back while I'm putting up the target".
So I stood there, bottom tip of my recurve on the ground as my dad was putting up an empty pop can for a target.  I'm not sure why I choose to put an arrow on the string.  I also remember thinking, "I'll just pull on the string a little but I won't let go".
Somehow the string slipped from my fingers and I watched as the arrow took a somewhat rainbow arc down range.  I can still see my Dad turned to the side, lifting up one leg and covering his head as my arrow hit his bare arm and bounced out.

Needless to say that was the end of that practice session.   My dad packed me into the van and we proceded to drive to the emergency room to get him some stitches.  I remember being in awe of the fact that he had just been shot by an arrow yet could still drive!

I guess that's the worst thing I've shot on accident.

As a young teen ager (14/15) i shot my principles radiator. I was hooting in my back yard( very close to my school) when my release went off as i was drawing my Bear Whitetail 2. I loked for that arrow for hours and could not find it. Latter the next day i was called to the office and shown an arrow. He asked me if it was mine??  :(  It was!!!! ) I ended up paying for a new rad for my principle!! man was my dad Pi$$ed !!!!!

Since my window story from the winter of 2008/2009 has been such an issue lately,,, and so at Mr. Dill's request, here it is:

"

I closed on a new (to me) home in the country on December 24th whereas the former owners had 30 days to move, which only gave me a week from January 24th through the 31st to move out of my apartment and storage unit by the end of the month. That's a very short period to move 49 years worth of accumulated stuff. Coincidentally the last day of our archery season was Sunday February 1st.

Knowing I was an avid hunter, I promised the former owners I wouldn't shoot the backyard visitors of a doe and her twin fawns, but  regardless they quit feeding the wildlife a couple weeks before we received the keys I guess to make sure...8^)

Anyhow, after receiving the keys late on the 24th, I began spreading a little corn out back, and a few deer began appearing regularly  including a 2-1/2 year old class buck, and although I still had my buck tag and the end of the month and season was rapidly approaching, I was way too busy and tired throughout those 7 days with the move to have time to mess with venison.

Saturday evening of the 31st, I only had a couple more pickup truck loads in storage to finish up and felt if they showed that evening and allowed me to open a door or window, I'd take a shot. Hey - I know it wasn't hunting, but had only one day of season left and a new freezer to fill, and had to return back to work the following afternoon, Sunday, Feb 1st. This wasn't a hunt, this was going to be a slaughter...8^)

Anyhow as I'm unpacking a load at the house that afternoon around 5 o'clock the girlfriend announces the buck has arrived. I grab the bow, go to the closest window and ease up the inside window without detection. As I try to ease up the outer storm window, it squeaks and he spooks...Oh well...

I close the inside window and tell the girlfriend not to touch the opened outside storm window for tomorrow was the final day of all deer seasons.

Exhausted, I finally finish with the final load later that night and sit down to relax and notice she closed the outer storm window. She said there was a real cold draft coming in (it was bitter cold outside) as she sat on the couch. After a slight exchange of words...8^) I reopened the window.... Well, after I sat there a while, it was to cold to leave open, so I closed it too...8^)

Later went to bed to wake up to the 7:30 alarm and walk to the bathroom to relieve myself, look out the window just in time to see deer coming...8^)

Half asleep, I run down stairs, grab the bow get to the window and see the buck nonchalantly eating my corn...8^)

Now, standing in my underwear, I'm immersed in predator mode...8^) I stealthy raise the window as that of an experienced blind hunter and smoothly draw back my instinctive weapon at the perfectly presented victim. As my fingers relaxes the string loosens - CRASH!!!

Sparks fly, glass shatters, hooves flail, deer explode in every direction!!! I THOUGHT I"D BEEN SHOT...8^)))

I've never shot out a door or window before and I was so enthralled in the buck and getting the shot, I forgot I'd shut the outside storm window the night before...8^)))

Never knew that steel striking glass caused  sparks, and believe it or not, the arrow actually made it out in the yard about 10 feet short of where the buck was standing. I paced it off from the window to the buck at 21 paces.

Took the buck three weeks to show up again...8^)

After having my hand reattached from a log splitter accident I was shooting my Wheelie bow with a rigged up release that had a spoon welded to the trigger cause I only had use of my thumb at the time but could pull the bow back with the wrist stap...Well I lived in town and as I drew my bow back and had it pointed to the sky on my draw I somehow hit the trigger and watched my arrow dissapear into the sky and where it landed I never found out yet...I listened for sirens to go off and even drove around town looking on rooftops and backyards trying to locate the arrow...That was around 1986 or so and so far as to date no one ever said they were hit with an arrow in that neigborhood...

Its cold outside so I have target rigged up in the tv room....she hit the target and got over confident and managed to hit the wifes steam-iron...

Hit basement wall with trad gear, pieces went everywhere! With compound I skewered the lid of my chest freezer. Can't post a pic since it's a compound kill! The arrow stayed in the lid for about three years and I couldn't budge it then one day I came home from work and it had popped free and came out easily! Arrowonly stuck in lid so freeze works like a champ still!

Nothing major.  Back a bunch of years there was a few holes in the wall and a pillow.  Last time I try and shoot through a toilet paper roll indoors @ 12 yards...

I've lived in a warm enough climate for a couple of decades so I can shoot outside year round.

When it rains hard there is the carport...

Lower edge of ground blind window... still hit the gobbler, but lost him.
Sheetrock in basement wall.
Steel shop wall... arrow penetrated to the front of the nock and my truck was parked inside. Stopped just short of hitting my truck door. I was practicing steep quartering away shots on a 3d deer target and kept pushing the envelope until the arrow just ricocheted off the target into the shop wall.

I had just gotten my first custom T/D bow,a Chastain Wapiti and I could'nt wait to shoot it. We lived in the midwest at the time and it was below zero. The wife went to work and my son was in bed ,so I got the idea to shoot down the hallway into my bag target. All went well until I missed the target on the first shot and put the arrow to the fletches ,through the bedroom door. After the panic ,I found some of those round wood grain decals from some cheap piece of furniture and put them over the holes. All was well the wife never noticed or so I thought. Many years later I was shooting in the back yard and my wife told me to be careful as we don't need holes in anything again.

As a kid,I shot my brothers pet cat that was in the weeds behind our target. Did'nt even know it was there. I missed the target, cat came out running like heck. died by the edge of the driveway. Then around that same time,a month or two before I think,my brother was shooting at a target we had rigged up. I was dumb enough to be standing off to the side of it about 20 feet from it. Thought that was good enough. He shot,I watched the target,no arrow, then pain, then realized he had shot through my foot, and pinned it to the ground.  Good times.   rat'

ALMOST FORGOT!! True story guys...My brother and I had these 2 friends that lived down the road from us. They were brothers to. Dan and Justin. Anyway, they went hunting. It was dark o'clock. Dan decides to go to Justins tree and walk out with him. Dan didn't have a light on. Just walking through the woods at night like....A DEER! Well, you guessed it. Justin drew his bow,Dan later said he heard the wheel creak on the bow and thought that Justin had "A SHOT" so he stopped and was quiet as to not spoil it for him. Well...Justin shot him, right throughthe forearm. Dan yelled,Justin jumped out of the tree, sprained his ankle, but was able to get a turnakit on Dan,and get to the Emergency room. Both of them.   rat'

With a bow I have shot a garbage can, the floor many times, a door, a laundry rack, a chair, and the cement wall in the basement.

In the backyard the composter and fence have both been hit many times with both arrows and atlatl darts.

The slingshot has taken out a fish tank (luckily empty) and the barbecue window.

The blowgun has hit a shelf when the dart skipped, and a jug of linseed oil.

As I think about it, not very much.  The only things I can reall are an aluminum toolbox and plastic dog box (thankfully it was empty at the time).  Both shots skipped off the top of the target.

Now if you just count arrows lost that didn't hit anything...I'm glad I don't know the true number, it would be embarrassingly high!

This is awesome! I had some great laughs!

So far I think my favorites are the ones with barnyard animals (a couple goat stories and a couple cow stories)

Maybe my wife is right when she says I shouldn't draw my bow towards the apartment next door when I'm checking out my draw length in the mirror. I don't trust the bathroom tiles to stop my arrow.

I've only been shooting a bow for a couple years now, so I haven't accumulated a lot of stuff... yet! (knock on wood) So far just some fence posts (my uncle wasn't too happy when I buried a head in his brand new fence).

When I was little I shot my glass backboard for my basketball hoop with a slingshot. Didn't hurt it the first few times, then I REALLY drew it back and put a nice crack in it that only spread with time.

Also had a blowgun that I would shoot around the house. I didn't think I'd get that much penetration and I shot my sister's hair spray bottle. That went whizzing around everywhere. I think it was a little sticky in there for a while...

I have had three. One was me trying to shoot three under and I lifted the arrow off the shelf.  Missed my garage and stuck the arrow between the the second floor windows of my house.
Back in 1966, they were turning highway 75 into a four lane through town.  I wanted to see if a long skinny four blade with a nylon ferrule could penetrate as good as a Bowlo.  I taped up a Sears catalog, propped it up with a stick and paced off 24 yards.  I stuck one of each into the catalog, they must have made catalogs big in those days.  I set it all back straight and a real know it all cement truck driver from Sioux City, walked over and informed me that a real man holds the bow back for three seconds and that I was a snap shooter because I let go in one second.  I handed him my bow and a target arrow, he missed.  I handed him another arrow, he missed again and declared my Pearson Gamester a piece of chunk.  He left.
I shot the Bowlo again, thunk into the catalog.  Then I shot the four blade, the catalog was leaning back a bit.  The arrow jumped into the air, flew over the high lines that ran down the alley, 30 yards past my target.  I panicked, oh no it is going to land on Mean Oldlady Vamorrow's house.  No wait it may be short.  Oh no! MOV is going into her house, she will see it.
Right when she was closing her aluminum door, the arrow hit the cross bar of her clothesline.  Chink bang, the arrow was sticking four inches under the glass, in her aluminum door.  I raced up to pull it out and door opened and she looked around and closed the door.  I gained a few more yards and the door opened again, this time she saw the arrow and about had a stroke.  I told her how it all happened, she was so relieved that I was not trying to shoot her that she said "accidents will happen."  She did not want me to fix the door, but that broadhead hole remained for twenty years until someone else owned the house.
The third one?  Let's just say that 1968 Chevy Impalas that are parked clear across a large gravel parking lot can hold a lot of gasoline, and they can pee like a cat for twenty minutes when you hit 'em right.

Nothing personally, but my brother in-law was trying my recurve and he must have been pinching the knock pretty bad because just as he released the arrow swung off the shelf and zip..................right into the side of my jetboat!!   The funny thing was, the boat had a cover on it and the arrow appeared to be burried up to the flectch in my boat, but after close inspection it went into the cover, just scratched the boat and slid down the side, no damage.

When I was in the Navy I sold a bow to a friend, in the barracks, well he really wanted to shoot it so I pulled out a phone book and laid it on the floor. I went to shoot it to "show" him how haha missed and put the arrow half way into the floor!!! Couldn't pull it out so I cut it off and glued carpet over it on my floor... Then I thought, what about the guy below me!!! Went knocking and sure enough there was arrow sticking out of the ceiling!!! Cut it and put putty up... Had to bribe everyone with lots of beer not to say anything, I could have got a article 15 lol haha...
