Title: vintage woolrich
Post by: oh-bowhunter on December 07, 2009, 05:06:00 PM
I feel lucky.  My friend gave me his grandfathers woolrich jacket and pants.  He told me he hasn't hunted since 71 just hanging in his garage.  It is red and black plad.

I remember hunting with my Dad as a kid and him wearing his Red and Black Plaid Woolrich outfit. I recently picked-up a couple of the same Jackets off the auction site. It's just starting to get cold enough for them now. We lived in Cleveland and hunted Amish farms in the Middlefield area by the way. My family moved to Middlefield after I left for the Service out of High School.
Good luck with your "Old School" wool!

Woolrich came out with a green and black one this year, the same as the red and black. I have hunted in Woolrich all my life. You can still buy a new coat for under 200 that will last you all your life.

Bought one of those coats at Bass Pro in the Bargin Barn about 12 years ago... Got a Stormy Kromer red plaid hat to go with it a couple years ago. I am very "stylish" in my winter ensamble...  ;)

George Stoudt knows what I'm about to say:

Back when I was 18 (that would be about 66' or so) I bought my first woolrich suit.

They'd "improved" it by adding this silkish (nylon) lining with some sort of thin polyester insulation inside.

That danged thing was a misery. It was so much thinner than my grandad's woolrich or the ole "macinaw" that you could put the collar up and it would nearly cover your head!  :)

Being thinner, on stand, it wasn't as warm as traditional woolrich up to that time. Being lined with nylon and some insulation, it was hellish hot walking.

If I ever came across an old fashioned, un-lined woolrich suit that fit my expanding form, I'd buy it sure-nuff.

We used to make an annual pilgrimage to Woolrich store in Woolrich...but when they were bought out and moved, I began finding other products.
