I set out to kill one particular buck this year (solid 160 class). It was going to be him or nothing.

Ive been chasing him for two years (missed him last year, shot right over his back) This was him in 2008.

Saw him four times. Once (October 15th) at 5 feet......no ethical shot. :banghead:
November 30, with rifle season fast approaching, I decided to take this one. I have several photos of this deer over the last 3 years but have never laid eyes on him in person. He is at least 4.5 years old and is a real toad.

He has always been somewhat "antler challenged" but he was by far the most illusive of all the mature deer I have photos of. I About fell over when he stepped out of the brush, I knew him immediately.
This is him in 2008. Notice last year he was 5 on the left and four on the right.

I let him walk almost out of view so to get the wind right. Hit him with a snort wheeze and a brief clash of antlers that brought him by me at 28 yards while he was attempting to get down wind of me.
He went about 80 yards.
All and all it was a great season. I hunted a lot of hours, passed on several big deer that if they make it through rifle season will be fantastic deer next year.
Didn't shoot the biggest one but for sure one of the most illusive........pure luck. Rather be lucky than good.

I know someone who's got TC pix of a buck in KS that we named "Top hat"...a big giant buck, long tines, but the whole rack loox like it'll fit in a five gallon bucket! Very cool !
Very nice deer. Love the mass over many tines.
Tim

toad is a good word to describe him, he is a thick ol bruiser, congrats on a beauty!
JJ1956,
I was shooting an old 60" 1992 Black Widow one-piece recurve. I learned on this bow and it still is my favorite. I had the guys at Black Widow refinish it for me and fix a few dings and scrapes on it this summer. (I think they thought I was crazy.......it was pretty beat up). They did a great job and it looks like new.
However when it came back it was a few pounds lighter. It is now 55# at 28" and about 61# at my 30" draw. I was shooting Carbon Express 4560 shafts and 125 grain WASP SST Hammer braodheads that I sharpen the Trocar tips on. Total weight about 500 grains at 200 fps if any of that matters to you. Complete pass through.
Guru,
He is unique. My computer crashed in October and I lost all of this summers game cam pictures. I had a few pictures of this deer around the first of October (before the rut and on full feed all summer) and I think he would have pushed 300 on the hoof, he was fat. After 2 months of running he was still large maybe 250. We didn't weigh him for sure, but it took 3 of us to load him.

Awesome animal, I want to move to Kansas. You sure seem to see a lot of whoppers out of there.
No toad there, he is a full fledged Bullfrog :)
Congrats on a beauty of a buck!
Jack

Allan

awesome thick deer. Congrats!!
Great deer in a great state! Way to go!
Great job!! Congratulations!
Its not all luck when you use tools like snort wheeze, rattle and make a clean shot at 28 yards, I'd say some serious woodsmanship and good hunting! Congratulations on a fine buck and on taking the one you are given.
