Hunting north of St Johns, MI in a marsh area a few years back. I arrowed my first buck hunting at ground level at less than 12 yards..what a rush. I spent the morning looking for it as the hit was a little high, but a pass through and he ran down a creek before heading into a thick grassy end of the woods. On my way out to get my sons to help track the deer I found this unique rock (looks to be a meteorite). I left it because it weighed about 15 pounds and didn't want to carry it. Yes we found the buck on our first pass and the next spring I went back and picked up the rock..

sorry that was to be under the coolest things seen while bow hunting thread..Roy

If it is a meteorite, it could be worth quite a bit of money.

I hope it's not cryptonite! You might loose all your strength.

Roy, Cool find to say the least.
As always great picture too!

i lost that along the maple river....   ;)

I would have someone check it that is familiar with the composition of meteorites.  It doesn't look like one to me, but it could be weathered over a long period of time.  And if it is weathered, it should show some rust as they contain nickle iron and will show rust spots after awhile.

Yeah I think i would have it checked out...you might be sitting on a gold mine. Nice find

				Indian love stone, maybe?

I bet steve h can tell us what it is.  I had some picture of fossiles that he identified.

				Leaverite.

Charlie that what my Dad used to tell me alot  :biglaugh:    :biglaugh:    :biglaugh:

Nope, certainly not Leaverite.  Otherwise it would have stayed put.  Leaverite is usually tossed into the woods by a sarcastic geologist.
Nor is it Fornicite, for the same reason as above.
Looks good on the doily, though!   :)

Don't use it as a "Joe Dirt" condiment bowl it may not be a meteorite.

I think I see the face of Elvis when the light hits it just rite.   ( just messin with ya )

If it is meteroite a magnet will stick to it. See if a magnet will stick to it.

				Check for peanuts.

				That looks like uranium.

Looks like real nice door stop to me.

FerretWYO,  I just about spit coffee on my computer on that one!   :biglaugh:

Looks like a blob of concrete that got dumped in water and then set up...
I agree about the meteorite and checking it with a magnet but I think that while I've heard most meteorites do have metal, I think I've heard that some do not.  May not be a 100% reliable test.

I have a couple of them and the magnet does stick to most of the ones I have seen. That would be a good find if it is really a meteorite.

Leaverite!  LMAO...that's a first for me.
Dad always called them JAFR.

				Chupacabra coprophite.
Killdeer

Fossilized dinosaur scat---you are going to need to increase the FOC on your arras

Well the magnet does not stick...pretty neat heavy rock though,,maybe I need to have someone at MSU check it out..Roy

				Does it float?   :p

This thread reminds me of something...  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZrwCUvuzldU

				HA!!!
Leverite!!
 Love it Lamb!
I learned that one from Ferret!!  Ha!!
If it's a meteor, Very cool!
If not Lie to everyone! drop it onto your car from a place high up!
that makes it official ya' know!!

I would be tempted to forge it into broadheads with special powers, sort of like Jim Bowie's meteorite knife in "The Iron Mistress" movie.

Looks like a bowling bomb.(a big ol frozen chunk of poopie)Dang!! Are there airports nearby? Just kidding had to join in on the Joe Dirt bandwagon.

I sent the pic to my Pop, he's a rock hound.
I'll let you know if he can determine anything from the picture.
Can you scratch it with a knife blade>  For this type of test you should have a fresh surface so you aren't just scratching the deteriorated surface.

looks a lot like the tibiotarsus (probably left side) from an ornithopod corythosaurus circa 75 million years ago; habitat north america.
