Title: Collecting Bear Bows
Post by: Gil Verwey on December 01, 2009, 07:24:00 PM
I would like to start to collect Bear bows. I know there is the CD for the Grayling catalogs but is there a book or place where you can find a reference for serial numbers? I intend to get the cd but I am looking for other information to try and date them. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Gil

Gil, I don't know of any book that is a clearing house for Bear info. I wish there was but alas...

The CD is very helpful as it is copies of the "old" catalogs.

Some time ago I dowloaded some articles/info that Al Reader had written and I was able to use this as a starting point early on (before I found TG that is)

Serial numbers can be tricky. Only a few hard fast rules and another thing is that with old Bear bows there are lots of exceptions!

If you have something that you need a date on post some pics and help will soon arrive.

Be careful as collecting Bears can be addictive! Some folks stick to one model or to a specific year. You can do it any way you like and there are lots of Bear bows out there.

Good Luck!!!

Thanks John, I found a site by Al Reader with some info. I wanted to do this for a long time but was afraid to start, since I thought it might wind up being addicting and expensive. That is a bad combination!

Thanks again
Gil

Try talking to Bearbowman  (Steve Smith) a real Bowmaster with a ton of knowledge about Bear Bows . He has answered a lot of my questions over the years ,  Fred

It had never been easier to collect bows than now. The E site will let you find a lot of bows and the bow site on here has old Bears. If you are looking for a model just ask and someone has one for sell.
