Curtis Kellar had an accident involving a tractor and a tree over the weekend. He's in the hospital (being transferred at this point in time) with issues regarding his spine.
He's in good spirits, though in a lot of pain, with no apparent paralysis. He'll be laid up for a while and has no cell phone coverage or computer.
He asked me to field any questions regarding currently booked hunts.
I'm in touch with him daily and will get some kind of answer for those having them.
Take it easy on me please. Unless your hunt is booked within the next couple of weeks please refrain from contacting me.
I'm just a stop gap for the next few days.
Tell him my thoughts will be with him.
My prayers are with him and his family...
Dang it!!

Thanks for all the positive thoughts and well wishes guys.
Curtis is at home at this writing and ridin the couch.
Appointment with his personal physician this afternoon. His orders are to lift nothing heavier than a gallon of milk... we'll see about that.
He hadn't really wanted me to spread the word, but I did need to let his hunters know... couldn't see any way around it.
Arrangements are being made so that all hunts will happen as planned, so get your broadheads sharp.
Good to hear that hes out of the hospital.
Get well soon Curtis and best of luck at the docs.
Get wll soon Curtis. Hope to see you in January.
I bet the tree and tractor both came out of this worse off than old Curtis! Glad to hear you're out of the hospital buddy!
get well Curtis..
Hope you get better Bud quickly.RC
Thanks for update charlie. I was holding my breath on this one. Too many local tragedies to shake a stickbow at among folks I know. Hearing this one just made my guts twist.
Curtis, you "git er done" but on the doc's time table, not yours! :)
Sorry to hear about the accident. Hopefully he makes a full and speedy recovery.
Man its good to hear hes alright. Lets see i dont know the spicific gravty of milk but i bet a gallon of milk weights less than his bow :saywhat: and the doc did say lift not pull right.
Thank you ver much guys for the best wishes. All I can say is that I got a real real close look at the other side. I am truly a lucky and blessed man to have lived thgh this freak accident.
Thank you Charlie for fielding questions and posting.
I was life flighted by helicoter to San Antonio University Hospital last Saturday. It's one of the best trauma hospitals around. Unfortunately, once they stablize you they have no after-care other than morphine and ugly nurses. Of course the morphine helps a lot with the ugly. :readit: I see no reason to lay in bed in a hospital when I can lay in bed at home. I basically released myself until I can get all the specialists booked for future care. It looks like I'l be sharing 4 doctors for these injuries.
I seem to have at least one broken vertebre and a couple of crushed disks based on the x-rays and MRI's. At the same time my body was crushed in one direction by the tractor and tree my off side arm was twisted around behind my head and back. Very unatural!!! It either temporarily disclocated or simply tore up something inside the shoulder. Of course this wasn't life threatening so it hasn't even been looked at yet by a doctor. Needless to say, I won't even be shooting my girly weight bows for awhile.
I currently have little strength and little desire to do anything but lay still and ask my wife to do things for me. :readit: She thinks this was all an accident. It's our little secret, ok.... :goldtooth:
I'll be back at em soon so don't worry about your scheduled hunts. I've already contacted another Outfitter friend who'll be ram-roding things if I am unable to lift or carry out my daily ranch duties. You guys might even see the Sunbear in camp doing a few chores. I'm ok for now! Gonna get better very soon!!! I currently plan on seeing all of you around the gambrel on your scheduled hunting dates. I'll be the guy with the hunch back. :D
Thanks again for all your well wishes and prayers. Sincerely, Curtis
P.S.
My lap-top computer is broke and I have to walk to the other room to check the computer. It may take some time to return email or post so be patient with me. Thanks!
Glad Your up and around Curtis. Take good care of Yourself.
Good to see you're out of the hospital. Sounds like a bad deal. Glad you only got a "glimpse" of the other side. Prayers for your speedy recovery.
Get well soon brother!
Glad your home, and hope for a speedy recovery brother!!!
THAT...that was one welcome piece of posting right there, Curtis!!!
Man, dude... sounds like you're going to be kin to that ole show about the $6million Dollar Man, till they git you all rebuilt. :)
Better! Faster! You go boy! Take time to heal...being stubborn and doing too much can haunt you as you get to my age...do it by their schedule and you'll be fine quicker---longer!
Very thankfull you are ok. Praying for your speedy and full recovery!
Prayers for him and he gets well soon.
Take care and get well soon...I'll see you in April.....
God Bless
Sounds like a rough go that you're handling well, Curtis. It was good to hear directly from you. You take real careful care and get well soon.
Dick, The Old Phartt
Hope you recover better and faster than you could possibly hope for.
Get well soon.
May I suggest yoga next time you get the desire to reach places you can't normally!! Sounds like you are dang lucky to be alive bud! Tractors and trees arn't all that forgiving most of the time.
Now being the stubborn pig headed male that you are, do us and yourself all a favour and do what the Dr.'s tell you. Debbie, you lay down the law and keep a role of duc tape handy. If he's not doing as told - go to it - tape the little buggers a$$ down. Curtis, life is long and pain killers are in short supply in America. Take the road to recovery as slow as needed.
Your hunters and friends will help all as needed. I'd be more than happy to do all the work and see you sit around the fire and tell stories my friend. Take care of yourself! Right now that's the key factor here. If you have to cancel/move a few hunts then so be it.
I hope he has a full recovery.
Praying for a full and speedy recovery.
Glad to see you havent lost your spirit.Get well soon.
Man Curtis, that sounds gnarly! Glad you're still in one piece.
Main thing is that you are still with us! Get well and take the time to do it right. If you need to chill then do so. Don't rush it!
Thanks for letting us know how it went down. I hope you keep feeling better everyday. relax and milk it for all it's worth.
Talked to Curtis's Wife Today and She said He's doing good, but sore.
Glad to se you back Curtis I know how that back pain can be. I had back surgery 2 years ago. 3 bad disc and a small tear in my spinal cord. Had out paitent surgery at 6:00 A.M. in the morning and was home be 2:00 in the afternoon. My back is now better than it was 10 years ago but I still need to do daily excerises to keep it feeling good and I am much more careful about what I lift or do.
Hope we can talk in a few days.
Doug Hansen
Glad youre doing better, Curtis! Sorry to hear about the ugly nurses, though...
Do what them docs tell you and you'll be good to go...Take it easy!
Cameron
Best of luck on a speedy recovery.
Take your time and don't rush things !!!!Good to hear from you.
May God speed his recovery.
Curtis,
Sounds like a rough one. Bad stuff can happen in a heartbeat around machinery. Sorry to hear you're banged up. Hang in there and get better quick.
I'm glad to hear you are going to be okay. Please follow the Doc's orders. Bones take a long, long time to heal.
Thanks guys! I appreciate the well wishes and prayers.
This is my daily check-in. I'm sleeping a lot right now and don't have much energy. I'm suppose to know more about my doctors today sometime. As of now my back seems to be better than once thought. I'm just going on how things feel. It's my shoulder that seems to be worse than anything. Things just don't move fast enough when you are hurt and need to be getting things done.
As of this writing we'll all be going forward with all the hunts as scheduled. I will make sure everything goes as close to plans as I possibly can. If you have called and left a message I'll get back to you soon. My thinker isn't quite right with all the meds so I'll return calls and emails as soon as I can. Thanks again fella's! See yall soon! CK
Best of luck with your recovery.I lost my brother-in-law 11 years ago in a tractor accident on our hunting property we bought together.Very tragic glad to say in spite of your serious injuries you were lucky also.Take care Kip
Hey Curtis,
I've been on the road a couple weeks and away from the puter. Sorry to hear of your troubles. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help out. Hi to Debbie and heal up well little brother.
Curtis, Get well soon I know you want to get back out there in the worst way. Those tractors are not forgiving at all.I learned that quite a while back. Good luck, Ben
Dang it Curtis. Get feeling better bud. Thoughts and prayers with you!
Get yourself well buddy!!

Frank,

Curtis, my prayers are with you for a speedy recovery.
Speedy recovery there Curtis, You'll be in my prayers man. Shane
Thanks again guys! It must be the prayers that are working. I seem to be improving daily with my back. I do think I'll make close to a 100% recovery with the back. I'm still not too sure about the shoulder. Time will tell. I still can't lift my arm.
I am starting to return emails this morning. I'll try and return all of them today if I can sit that long. Sorry that it has taken so long. Thanks for your patience. CK
Don't push Yourself to fast Bro... Take Your time and get well Soon..
Glad you're feeling better, CK. Take it slow and things will start coming around.
Cameron
No worries Curtis take your time. Glad your feeling better. :wavey:
Our prayers are with you. Keep resting and listen to the Doc's. Healing takes slow time not fast. Hang in there buddy.
Our prayers are with you. Keep resting and listen to the Doc's. Healing takes slow time not fast. Hang in there buddy.
Curtis,
Shoulders are pretty complex machines. It might take some time. If you've torn the rotator, surgery may be required.
Good Lord might just be letting you know it is time to take a more reflective approach to life for a spell and take time to smell the coffee.
Complex as shoulders are, they do great things getting them repaired. You just do what needs done and listen to the docs.
You'll be fine, bro. I can feel it!
When things get torn up that bad in a shoulder, surgery is usually the best option to make it better. I've been there and done that, but I am shooting my bows again. Recovery can be slow, so take your time and do what needs to be done, even if you don't like it -- and you won't!
Your body wants to sleep so it can repair itself. Sleep is your best medicine at this point. Take it.
A little word of advice: those narcotics are horrible things. It doesn't take long to become physically dependent on them, and many people become addicted. Don't use them any longer than is absolutely necessary. Try to transition to non-narcotic analgesics as soon as you can, even if you have to deal with some pain. During my cancer treatment I was on narcotics for 7 months. Being on them and going through the ordeal of getting off them was almost as bad as the cancer and the cancer treatments were, even though I was physically dependent on the drugs and not addicted to them.
My prayers for you will continue. God will be there with you, and so will his number one helper -- your wife.
Allan
Holy Crap, Curtis, I just saw this! What the heck were ya thinkin? :knothead:
I'm just up the road, if you need ANYTHING, just let me know, I'm there.
Stay well and do what you're told, backs and shoulders don't heal overnight!
LD
Curtis,
I hope you are up & running very soon and back to 100%. Keep the gang posted on your progress.
