Hi all,
Okay, I'm learning about this trad stuff all on my own. Well, I should say with ALOT of help from this forum! Anyway, I've always bought my arrows already made from a supply house full length that I then cut to length. I am interested in trying out some single bevel broadheads this year. I know from this forum that I need to match the bevel to the fletching, ie - left wing = left bevel. The problem is that I don't know what fletching I'm shooting. I know it's helical, not straight, but how do you look at the arrow to tell if it's left or right? Do you look from the nock end or tip end? Do you look at the twist going near to far or from far to near? I know this is an easy one but I haven't been able to find the answer anywhere. Please help a slow learner!!
Thank a bunch!
hold the arrow so your looking at the nock. If the front tip of your fletching is left of center it is a left wing if it is right of center it is right wing. You can also tell by looking at the catch lip of the feather, If the catch lip is on the right side, it's a left wing and if it is on the left side it is a right wing. I hope this helps.
Get a 3R catalog and on the feather page they explain it to you with a visual reference.
Mystic has it right. Also a very good illustration of it on the Trueflight feathers web site.
Thank you very much! Perfectly clear now. I knew that someone here would straighten me out.
Thanks to you and the forum for letting guys like me ask the simple questions. Simple for some, major obstacles for others!!
Thanks again!
Archery trivia info, from a conversation with Dan Quillian: The reason that left wing feathers are more abundant and cheaper is that when domestic turkey wings are clipped, a right-handed person holds the turkey so that it's easier to clip the left wing. They only have to clip one wing to keep the turkeys from flying out of the pen. There are fewer left-handed people, so there are fewer right wing feathers.
Also look down the shaft from the nock end. If the fletching rotates the arrow clockwise when shot it is right wing. Gary
I didn't think that this was the political forum....... :smileystooges:
