Lack thereof cost me a 12 yd slamdunk on a rather large bobcat last week. I have just gotten to where I can talk of it. :readit: :knothead:
Next day I dragged out my 3-d target to see if I could tell what happened. I was dropping my bow arm slightly! Shooting 3-4 inches low.
I shaved his chest for him,but it wasn't the results I wanted!
I've shot bows since about when they invented rope, and I still need to stay tuned, thought shooting my judo occasionally would suffice.
I now know form needs tuned up more often! :banghead:

Kenny,
Don't beat yourself up, it happens to everyone and much better to get a good miss than a wounded animal.
Experience is the best teacher! You will be better prepared next time and it will make it all that much better next time when you make good.
I am a MVP in the MISS & MAIMED CLUB of AMERICA, but I practice as much as possible in an effort to be the best shooter and hunter possible. :archer:

Sorry to hear of the miss Kenny.
It is funny you bring this up because I was just thinking that I need to start shooting more or I will miss if I ever see a deer this season.
Keep shooting,
Tim

wow! to think ----- even I missed once
-
Just a reminder to stay tuned up during huntin season! You can get sloppy fast!!
-
I don't shoot as much during season as I normally do, but I always shoot 8-10 arrows BLIND BALE style before leaving the house to get on stand, just to help insure my form, concentration and follow through is where it should be.

Kenny,
I would have to guess we all miss now and then, some probably more, some probably less than others.
Don't dwell on it, you do now know why you missed. That's far better than just coming up with some canned excuse! At least you can chalk it up to a learning experience, you have now learned to practice every chance you can, even if it's only 2-3 shots a session. Remember it doesn't take a lot of shooting to keep your body in form. But it does take enough to keep the muscle memory intact. :archer:

i like billys way ----------- thats my plane to

Take a Judo to the stand and shoot it before you get down. That's at least one good practice shot at each hunt. Also dont be afraid to shoot that judo at a tree rat. Nailing one of them little suckers does alot for confidence,
-
I have about a 7 yard range in my basement. I shoot about 15 arrows a day plus on the weekend at my deer target outside.
-
Yep,I always pack a judo and shoot it,the difference is you shoot a judo, close looks good,a field point stuck in a target is exact!
-
I shoot a blank bale from differant angles and yardage every day. If I go out and hit the first few times I quit! I just pick a piece of straw and let ur rip!! I can tell if I'm off as soon as the arrow leaves the bow! Jason
-
I shoot at least 5 arrows before I go out to hunt every day. If I stop practicing, I might as well stay home. I personally seem to lose my accuracy very quickly and do not feel confident if I don't shoot every time I go out hunting....

This is great advice. I think there was a thread about cold weather shooting not too long ago. That is something to think about as well. As we add layers to compensate for the colder weather, it WILL change things.
We haven`t had any really cold temps here yet, BUT they are coming!!! :(

I missed my first shot of the season because I hadn't practiced from a tree stand. Still kicking myself. There hasn't been many shot opportunities since.

It happens to the best of us sometimes, but you have a very good point.Lack of inseason practice ='s lack of muscle memory. That reminds me I need to go out and shoot now. :readit:
