I started out on Thanksgiving morning on my tree stand. It was a beautiful crisp morning. About 6:30 a basket rack 6 pointer walked toward my tree stand and started munching about 10 yards from the base of the tree. As usual I get very excited and have to try and calm down, its what I love about hunting, The little buck gave me a broadside shot. I drew back let the arrow go and saw it fly over its back. A clean miss. I have practice this shot a 100 times and never miss the target. Oh well, I was thankful for the opportunity. When I got home My wife and son had a Thanksgiving meal ready to eat with all the fixings. We thanked the Lord for all the blessing and started to eat. It was a great time just the 3 of us. We ate all day. Around 5:30 I was back hunting in my pop up blind, in an area that I have seen some nice bucks. My wife had bought me an Ipod and I started to listen to a audio book. I was in the blind for about 45 minutes. I was trying really hard to pay attention to the book when from the left a buck just appears out of no where. Now, I usually never listen to or read anything while I'm hunting. I'm afraid I'm going to miss something. And I always hold my bow in my lap. I was really caught by surprise this time. Listing to a book and my bow was against the blind. I carefully took the ear phones out, made sure no wires would get in the way. I leaned over and grabbed my bow and carefully got ready. I did this with the buck no more then 10 yards away. He moved from my left to the right and gave me a broadside shot, just like I dream about. I picked a spot behind the shoulder. I was really trying to focus. I started to pull back and the buck new something was up. I was still focusing on the spot but I could also see how the buck was getting ready bust out. I hesitated for a moment but came to full draw. I don't remember anchoring or the release. It was so fast that I couldn't be sure if I hit the buck. I was pretty sure but my mind was playing tricks on me. The buck ran about 50 yards, stopped, turned around and looked back. Like he was looking to see what just happened. Then he turned and walked away. I could see that he was kinda of limping but then he walked behind a bush and I didn't see him any more. I waited till dark, about 40 minutes before I went to go look for him. During this time I was rethinking the shot did, I hit or miss him. When it got dark I got out of the blind and looked for my arrow. The arrow would tell me what happened. I found the arrow, covered with bright red blood. Started walking in the direction the buck took off. I found a blood trail that led me to this. It was a great Thanksgiving day. I hope you enjoy it.

Very nice deer, Gilbert. Shooting high when you are excited is easy to do. I'm glad you got calmed down for the second shot of the day. Maybe listening to the book helped. Congratulations on a fun Thanksgiving hunt. What equipment did you use?

Congratulations! He looks a lot like the one I shot this morning. Great story. I don't think I could have stayed awake listening to an audio book. My wife got one for vacation one time. I was driving and finally made her shut it off so I could stay awake!
Sometimes the more time the deer give you, the easier it is to miss...too much adrenaline I guess.
Even though I had lots of time to watch this morning, I didn't really notice the adrenaline until after the shot. Then I thought, whoa, my heart could slow down any time now!
There is absolutely no drug that could equal the high of deer hunting.
Thanks for sharing!
