Title: Bow Building Resources
Post by: lucznik on November 25, 2009, 07:02:00 PM
I read an article in the October/November 2009 issue of Primitive Archer magazine wherein the author, Mark Baker, describes the use of a board bow to take a cow elk.  He mentions that board bows are the simplest, easiest, and most economical way for a guy to start learning bowyery.

It got me to thinking that I might like to try such a thing.  I know of no bowyers in my area to work with so; I'm wondering if y'all could point me to some resources (books, videos, etc.) I could acquire to start down the path of making a first bow?

Or if there is an easier way, please suggest away.

Traditional Bowyers Bible, Vol. 1 and 2 are a great place to start. There are other good resources as well, but TBB series is a must have for someone wanting to get their feet wet.

If you have a local shoot to go to you may find some bowmakers there.
But the best start is like whip said. The tradition bowyers bibles. 1,2,3&4
I would also say to get on the BOWYERS BENCH here on trad gang and look at some build alongs. And try to find some of the guy's on that forum that are from WY.

The quickest, simplest way to build a board bow would be in the "Bent Stick" by Paul Comstock.  An inexpensive book, and very easy to follow.  After than one you will probably want to expand your horizons with the Traditional Bowyers Bible series.  Just my opinion.
