Am feeling the pull of recurve hunting. Several questions:
1. I shoot a 65 pound pulley bow. Is a 60 pound recurve something comparable? Have never shot a traditional bow and want enough bow to hunt whitetails, but not more than I can shoot well. Am 43 and in good physical shape.
2. How do I select an appropriate arrow for a recurve? I'm guessing I can't just use the carbons I'm shooting on my compound.
3. Martin and PSE both have some reasonably priced recurves (via cabelas) in the $250 range that are 50-55 #s and 58 - 60 inches. Are these good quality bows?

I think if you are shooting a 65lbs compound you should get around 50-55lbs recurve. I switched from a 60lbs compound to a 50#@28 Longbow and it has been a little bit of struggle to get my strength up to get a full draw. You should go to cabelas and have them string one and shoot it a couple times. Better safe then sorry don't over bow your self. 50lbs is plenty to shoot threw a deer. Also your i'm sure will not work from your compound. You should check out the classified on here to buy great quality bows. For the last thought this is in the wrong forum. I would say it all depends on how long they are and whether you get a centre cut bow or not. And using a 6 strand d97 string will help to weaken the spine down a little as well.
You have them anyway so you may as well just load up the front with a lot of weight and see what happens. I have 350 grain on the front of mine so don't be shy with it.
And welcome to recurves! I have a Martin X200 and a Hunter. Lovely bows!
My advice to you is to get two bows. One in the 35# area and one in the 45# area. Learn and shoot the 35#er until you feel real good about your shooting and accuracy. Then move to the 45# a few months before the season (or just hunt with the 35#'er if it is legal).
I would go the used route and look for older Bears, Shakespear, Ben Pearson, or Red Wing. I'm sure you could get both for the $250 mentioned.
