Title: I don't wanna rub it in, but...
Post by: Tom Leemans on November 23, 2009, 08:13:00 AM
I have a wonderful wife. She understands that hunting season is when I get get some me time, and that I'll compensate her in turn. She also says things like "What's that web site for that book and that flashlight that you want?"

You know what they say Tom - Behind every good man there is an even better woman! No doubt there is alot of great gals out there that know how important our time afield is to us. I think that's why Christmas follows hunting season! Somebody was thinking when they laid this all out.

You are not rubbing it in, because my husband has been sooo supportive, especially this year, that I have been thinking about starting a thread just like this one, for all the Tradgang folks to tell just how terrific thier spouse/family have been about your hunting.

:clapper:  To all the fantasic families of Tradgang land. I applaud you! Have a Happy Thanksgiving.

I think i might can top them all. Me and my wife just got divorced and this was her weekend to keep our little girl so i was hunting of course. I still see my princess during the week a lot because i can make my own schedule. This comming weekend is my weekend to keep her and my wife told me if i wanted to go hunting she would be glad to keep her. The great thing about this is im off after wed. so i can head out that afternoon and be in the woods by 3 pm.

Even though we decided to end our marriage we are still friends and we put our little girl first and make sure that she is ok with everything. In 2 more years i will have a new hunting partner.

Gee, for me and my wife it's a race to the best treestand. I am retired and she is semi-retired so our kids are all grown and we have the time to do it whenever. I am very Thankful for her ability to try bowhunting and then stick with it. Makes weekends  a bit different than most other folks.

Yup, me too.  I always tell guys who ask that marrying my wife was the best thing I've ever done!  Something that I "overachieved" at in life.

Here's a pic of us last March on a family walk in the woods / shed hunt.

I got you beat my wife is an animal lover and she still wishes me luck and promotes me in teaching my children to hunt. You gotta love a woman that will put her feelings aside so that you can do what you love, and still respect and love you when you return. And allow you to keep the tradition alive through your children even when it's not what she believes in.I love this woman!

no I've got the best wife ever. We do have an agreement.  There  are 52 weekends in a year.  I get I get 8 of them to bowhunt she gets the rest.  And I don't take advantage of her good nature, I have friends that are gone all the time and wonder why they have  stress at home....

Nothing like the love of a good woman. My wife just made a short drive through a brush patch for me, didn't produce any deer, but what a gal!

Mine hunts with me, camps with me, fishes with me, etc.  She loves to cook, clean, and "take care of her man". Throw in that she is really pretty, loving, and is a giving person to everyone she meets.  Tough life I am leading here ya know.

Late season just started here, last night she was on my back about where we were hunting this coming weekend. It was absolutely horrible. She was very demanding about it.   She wants to drive to the coast, stay in a condo, and hunt where we were on elk early season.  Deer are all over the area she wants to hunt as well just further north about 10 miles.  She really gets on my case when she thinks I haven't planned enough and researched enough to make sure she will get on animals and maximize her shot chances.  To top it all off she is an animal hog and expects me to play guide and get her set up so she fills her tags first.  Throw in that she arranged some productive private property for us to hunt deer at the coast and you can see what I have to live with!  Terrible I say!  BIG GRIN, REALLY BIG GRIN. Well, enough whining about my rough life and tough to live with wife.  I will just have to spend the next 40 years sucking it up! Did I mention that our last anniversary gifts to each other are a pair of Wes Wallace custom longbows?   Better yet, it was her idea.

She is hands down the best thing that ever happened to me.

My wife is very supportive of my love of hunting, even agreeing to buy a piece of property for me to have a good place to hunt. She realizes that I will spend at least part of most every weekend from mid-September till New Year's Day in the stand. However, she is a town girl, and does not care much for the outdoors. I could never get her interested in hunting or archery. Her most classic comment about that was, "If you don't make me go to the archery range, I won't make you go to the mall". Yet she does not complain about me spending more than my fair share on hunting goodies. She is about the best non-hunting wife a bowhunter could hope for. Besides, who else could put up with me for 36 years? However, there is one up-side to a non-hunting wife. She doesn't really know much all this equipment actually costs.

My wife is the best. She tells me to go hunting when ever I get the opertunity. She always has a hot dinner waiting for me when I get home. Even though she's an animal lover, last year she help me load my big buck into the truck when I couldn't do it myself. I had to buy her a dress for that one.... but still she's the best.

Ok, you big braggarts!

I do hope you realize that the best gift you might ever give your wife would be to email her a link to this thread!

Congrats to you all.  It's heart-warming to see so many ladies participating and especially those who don't agree, but are supporting and encouraging.

Culture has changed and women and kids are the future of hunting!

Congrats to you all on great life partners. You've even more to be Thankful for Thursday.

Oh, and Tom L, I'll read between the lines and ease on outa that SIL inquiry now!

Katia does not want to hunt herself but she loves the outdoors, fishing, shed hunting, watching the deer, trail cameras etc etc.  She is a dandy blood trailer and is putting in most of the time right now training our new Dachshund pup to blood track deer.  She gives me no grief for a hunting season that ends up putting me in the woods for at least part of the day for around 110-120 days a year.  When we built our extension on the house (trophy room) I asker her what she wanted to go in it and she said "A full mount muskox - they are SO good looking." - ok, I did the "work" to fulfill that wish.

The first time I took her to Iowa to meet my parents when we were dating she was riding behind me on a quad and yelled "Stop! I see an antler!" in the middle of a CRP grass field...yeah, right....anyhow she bailed off and ran 20 yards over and came back toting a shed from a 160 inch 10 pt - "Is this a good one?".  Dad told me she was a keeper then.

Took me a long time to find a good one but it was well worth the wait.

Ryan
