a dozen arrows will last some folks a long time , seems like i go thru a dozen a month. lotta rocks / squirrels / practice / stumpshoot ! well you get the idea /the broadhead target has saved a lot, got it hanging in a tree for more realistic angel. bag is good to but real fun is leaf shooting, shooting apples out of tree things like that.
I use a dozen for target and 3d shoots. When they get beat up I use them for stumping. Then make another dozen and start it all over again. My hunting arrows I only shoot when I hunt. Maybe two dozen a year.
Dang I wish I only went through 2 dozen a year! I have an addiction to arrow making I shoot woodies and prob make around 10 dozen a year Heck I have some I have not even shot yet!
I am jealous. I hate making arrows but wish I didn't. I once ordered a gross from River City but ended up giving most of them to friends. Making a good arrow was tough for me. I felt like a kid again trying to put together a model car. I bet when I went off to the army my mother was shocked to find so many models were still in the box hidden away under my bed..lol I learned to keep my mouth shut or there'd be no presents at all.
God bless,Mudd
I go though spells. Some times my arrow are so tough other time they break real easy. Right now I doing real well but its rabbit season thats always hard. Frist day with a new dozen I will break one never fails! :banghead: I use about 2 dozen a year on average.
Broken Arrow 1, I love making wood arrows too. I go thu 2 dozen, but I make more then that in a year.I give them away so I have something to do. One of the reasons I stopped shooting carbons was I didnt ruin as many.I still have the same carbons I got a few years ago. Minus the ones I lost stump shooting.
Lets see - I still have:
* 4 or 5 (squirrel) arrows from a dozen aluminums I bought probably 5-6 seasons ago.
* 1 or 2 (also squirrel arrows) from a dozen aluminums I bought 4-5 seasons ago.
* 3 Grizzly Sticks from a half dozen I bought last year.
* 11 of the dozen Carbon Express Heritage I purchased this season (broke one in a deer so I can't complain about that).
* and last but not least, I still have 2 hardwood dowel arrows from a dozen I made probably 15 years ago.
Arrows tend to last me a while - I dislike (but will on occasion) taking shots without some sort of backstop. Most of the arrows I don't have any more were broken rather than lost.
I dont break many, but I have so many shafts sitting around that it drives me nuts not doing anything with them. I will get bored and start looking at my feathers and then the shafts, next thing I know I have 6 more sitting here done :knothead: . I have several that I havent shot or even nocked up on the string. I have the wife convinced that I need different arrows for each bow :D ......Roy
I made 21 cedars in 2008 and have all 21 still here and working (I shoot almost everyday too). I may add I don't stump with these cedars, rather use some old fiberglass or aluminum. I also go to great lenghts to find them on errant shots.
Now the arrows I made for my grandkids.....that's a different story.
Every time I would get drawn a tag(every blue moon) I would go nuts making arrows. Getting snowed in gives me arrow fever, not cabin fever! I just ordered a couple of dz. for this winter from Great Basin. Does not matter have a garage full of boxed arrows because I GOT A PIGGY TAG!!! :bigsmyl:
