devils are eating up my bird feed! i wanted a bird feeder not a squirrel feeder. test your hunting skill on those devils i say !they are smart quick hard to hit and taste better than chicken! they learn real quick that its you or them ! lol have fun
Been there, Shakey. When the timber was cut on the neighbor's property, the squirrels all moved to my house. Ended up shooting 13 of them before things returned to normal. A shotgun works best. :)
Ya but with a bow, you don't need new fillings! :biglaugh:
I've hunted squirrels with my bow a time or two, lotta fun. At first it was only 1 then 4 then 6, that makes 12 sets of eyes to avoid.
After half hour or so I got within range and picked one out, I missed the first shot by a couple inches and they all looked up for about a minute then went back to gathering, the 2nd shot missed only by half inch.
No squirrels but had fun, good enuff for me rite.
Oh boy, I wish we had something like a squirrel over here in Australia that we could hunt. Sounds like a lot of fun to me.
Get cayenne pepper and mix it into the seed. The birds can't taste the spice and eat it but the squirrels can't stand it - that or just shoot 'em like ya said.
Australia sounds like a cool place to hunt, gotta be somthing simalar to a squirrel.
Rabits are good eatin, Maybe kangaroo.
One year I managed to get 13 of them buggers. Some I shot out the back door. They make a great soup and seeing that they are "corn fed" they will be nice and fat and tasty. If you can kill a bunch of them you can kill anything walking. They are pretty tough.
My son started feeding the squirrels in the backyard so there is no target practice for me

. They are nice and plump too. They love the sugar frosted flakes and popcorn. He feeds them when he gets home from school and they know it. They sit on my targets waiting for the door to open....lol......Roy

Always wondered what that zipper was for, and how they got away so fast. lol
When I lived in NJ we had tree rats all over the place. I would leave a bow on the back porch with a judo on the string and try to get them. They worked out pretty fast when I walked out the door, to run for cover. Can't count the shots I took where the arrow passed right through the spot that the squirrel was in when I released but wasn't there when the arrow arrived. Quick little buggers.
Yep....they're cute at the feeder, however I know for a FACT, when they get in your attic, chew up a few wires (12 volt doorbell wire is their fav) your wife will give you the green light on 'em. Yum yum, fried squirrel, hard to beat!
Is it legal to bait squirrels? Were heading out tomorrow to hunt some. Deer hunting sucked, so now it's time for small game!
Steve
Razorback, I had exactly the same experience. By the time I cleared the screen porch, they'd be high-tailing it. That's why the gun came out!

Ya'll can relax. I got him.
They were all over yesterday morning, one almst ran up my pants leg
Great for a laff this morn. Is that a kriptonite head? :scared:
I was always impressed with the Grey Squirrels we had here in NY.... then I went to Ohio, and experienced Fox Squirrels. They are the "griz" of squirrels. Darn things jon't even jump as they cross the forest floor - they just kind of confidently saunter.... :scared:
I missed a doe completely that morning then hit the tree rat in the head with a judo point (plain, not kryptonite)--go figure. I probably did better with picking a spot (although the squirrel was closer, too).

When my wife lets the cats out the squirrels hang on the tree and screw with the cats they get so occupied with the cats that it's easy picking! when the wife is gone I use my 1100fps pellet gun out the kitchen window it works great as well.
I've taken several of the little buggers with my bow in my back yard. Great practice. The darn things get my pecans every year. As far as I'm concerned its always open season when it comes to squirrels. :archer:
Inspired by this post I hit the woods this morning with a couple of hammer heads. Stalked up on a grey squirrel feeding on acorns and shot. Missed and the arrow clattering thru the palmettos jumped up the biggest buck I've seen all season! :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: No squirrel, no deer!

m midd,
Don't know if you realize it or not but they sure look like oyster shell mushrooms growing on that log. Them things are GOOD eating! Bread them and deep fry them then dip in ranch dressing. MmmmmmmmmmmmMMMMMmm!
p.s. Since mushroom identification is an iffy thing, don't take my word for it. Get a book or look on line to check shrooms for your region. But I'm pretty darned sure about them.
Swampdrummer, I spooked so many deer trying to shoot squirrels in the past, I quit shooting at them! Now I only take a shot at one if I'm ready to quit and go in.
I've shot my fair share off of bird feeders. Squirrels are FAST. Congrats to you guys getting them with trad equipment. So far, I've only managed it with a .22 or a compound.
today squirrels 2 me 0 /they get a point when i miss/blowhunt/ or screw up any way - i get point when i put one in pot!
tomorrow another day !
Trad squirrel hunting is too much fun. I've only taken a few but have shot at tons of 'em. :-D
Last week I had a doe coming my way - looked promising. Had a squirrel jump in to the cedar tree I was in and landed about 18 inches from my head. It's a pretty small cedar so it shook the top of the tree - naturally I turned my head - and when I did the squirrel let out the darnedest sound I've ever heard - then jumped back to a branch 8 ft away and announced my presence to everything in a quarter mile radius. The old doe took heed and took an alternate route around my tree. One of these days . . .
