Well this morning I received "The Call" from little bastard/Rob/AKA-Forrest Creature and heard those wonderful words;"I got one down". I will leave it at that and let Rob tell his story.
God I love those calls!!!!!!
OK........
The story PLEASE! :knothead:
Hurry up Rob, and post some pics!!!
I would like to start this story by saying thanks to Leatherneck for the support and starting the post for me I have been a little busy today. The day started at 5:00am little rain but not bad, but buy the time i had arrived at camp it was a down pour. I had decided i came out so i should just suck it up and go hunting and I'am glad I did. When I got into my stand it all had but quit raining so that was good news, I was not in my stand more than 30 minutes and a sound of a branch breaking was my key to get ready. The deer was coming at me and made a loop back to my stand when I got my first look at him, it was the unique 8pt I had multipule trail pics of this season. I grabbed my bow and prepared for the shot, let me tell you I have not shot a Buck with my bow in 7 years because I always talked my self out of shotting for one reason or another. This buck had caught my eye early in the season and this would be my buck. As he crossed my trail at 18 yards and put his nose to the ground were I had put some Tinks doe-in-heat he stopped to inspect what he had found and that was my shot. I pulled and took my aim and released, I don't know if he jumped the string or my mark was off but I hit him high but right behind the shoulder, what happened next i had never witnessed, his butt hit the ground as he let out a roar. The buck stood there on his front legs looking around and began to cough blood, I love these animals way to much to see one suffer so I thought I would get another arrow in him to finish him. I pulled back and put the perfect shot right behind the shoulder just knowing I had taken his heart out and I did just that. I am hunting on a pine ridge that has 40 foot highwalls on both sides of it, anyone that is from here or has hunted here knows what are land looks like in Ohio, old coal land. It just figures he would try to get to the edge of and go over the highwall that I didn't want him to go down, so I paniced and tried to get another arrow in him to try to keep him from making it to the edge and that was a mistake it hit a limb and spinned him in the middle of the back. This I think was what gave him the boost of energy to make it over the highwall and to the rocks below. "We all learn lessons in life and I learned a couple today". I gave him 30 minutes and went to see my buck, as I came upon him a happiness could be felt that I had been missing for some time. As I began to take photos I thought how in the world would I get him out of here, up and I mean UP in every direction. I think it was from being pumped up but 2 hours later I had came up 40 feet across the pine ridge and down another 40 feet and out the hollow to the field edge. This is a true trophy in my eyes and I am blessed to have got him. Leatherneck will be posting some photos soon to go with the story. Thanks for reading my story and good luck to those that are still hunting. :wavey:
Congrats Rob. I think I saw that buck if it was in the same stand you let me sit.

I'm of the mindset that if you get a second or third or xx shot at an animal with an arrow in it, you take it no matter where the first arrow hit. I've seen too many lose a "perfectly hit" animal...if it's gonna stay around long enough to leave me another shot, I'm going to accommodate it. I've had numerous animals that were "dead on their feet" and I put another in it just cause I like insurance. My Papaw used to say "If you're gonna commit, commit fully."
Good story, looking forward to the pics.
Im with JC, if it gives you a second shot , take it.Just more insurance to a quick clean kill.
Looking forward to the picture.
Congrats on a successful hunt. Can't wait to see the pic...
Still looking forward to pictures LOL.
I shot a deer just like you did and dropped right were it stood and then tried to crawl away. I was later told there is a small area that will do this. I think you pierced the diaphragm.
Any way nice job and conrats.
Dave
Yep keep shooting til the clip is empty.
You don't have to sew up the holes later anyway.
Mike
There are no mistakes on an animal that is recovered, congrats! I may not live long enough waiting for the pics!
I just got home from work and Mike told me he will get them on tonight, thanks to all for the support :wavey:
OK,Ok,Ok. I'm sorry, I've been busy. First let me tell you a little story about my childhood. :bigsmyl: Just kidding, here you go.

And I'm a little upset.(well I am, but my legs aren't) He never called anybody until he had it up the hill and to the field. HE BROKE THE CAMP RULES!!!! :biglaugh: He said, you were having carpet laid so I did not want to bother you. Who cares about carpet I said!!! Sorry Terry, I meant that in a nice way.
That is a great buck Rob.
I am sure that is the buck I was chasing a doe one evening.
Paul
Now some of you westerners won't bat an eye to the next pic, but we Ohioans don't care too much for drags like this. See the daylight at the top of the hill, thats where the deer was shot. Thats where he must go out. :scared:

That is a cool buck. WAY TO GO ROB!
Cool racked buck! Congrats.
Thanks Mike for posting the pics :bigsmyl:
Thanks, Rob and Mike. Great story, great deer. The hunt that makes for great memories. Congratulations!
That is a cool looking rack, almost like it started to melt. Good job and I too would have kept putting arrows in there until he stopped moving!
-Charlie
:clapper: great buck.
Awesome buck, Congrats on a truly unique buck!
No such thing as too many arrows in a deer. One of my hunting buddies just lost a doe because he didn't shoot it again when he had the chance. He was convinced that she was done in by the way she acted, but she got away anyhow.

What an awsome looking buck, congrats :thumbsup:My buddy asks me all the time about my 7 arrow quiver. My response to him is because the don't make a 12.Good shooting on a fine buck.
WOW what a great buck.
I think I'd quarter that deer up and pack him out, that looks like a miserable place to grag one up and out.
That is a really cool buck! Love a littla character on those antlers.
Love them hills  Wouldnt do it any other way! Nice Buck!
Yep, that buck was worth 2 arrows for sure!
