Title: Summit Razor SS for bowhunting?
Post by: Curtis Haden on November 18, 2009, 06:50:00 PM
Anyone have/use one of these stands?  I know the Viper SS is a good stand but the rail would be in the way for me.  The Razor SS has a folding rail.  Mainly wondering if it goes down far enough to be out of the way and shoot a "long" bow?  Anyone have any input on the Razor?

I just sold one a while ago on the classifieds here. It was a great stand! I always put the shooting rail down the as far as it will go and never has any issues, as long as I stood up.

That should fold under you to! Look at the bolts, they have a rounded look to them, simply line up the holes with the bolt heads and pull outward. They should pop out so you can fold it under you.

For a climbing stand, I like mine.  I use a small bungie strap and fold the shooting rail under and up out of the way.  I just have to watch while going up and down the tree due to it's hard to see your feet due to the seat.  Other than that, it's a sturdy, secure stand.

I have one, but don't use it much. yes, the shooting rail will fold under you so it's out of the way. I just don't like the side rails being in the way, in case I have to shoot to the side, or rear.

Nice stand though!

Curtis, look at the side rail of the seat. shooting to your left, for a rh shooter the bottom limb of a longbow will hit the seat if you have to shoot behind you even a little. I have a bushmaster which has a smaller seat assembly than the Razor and still have trouble with that shot. That is why I mostly use hang on stand with rapid rails.

I used my brother-in-laws Razor this past wk-end,as mentioned above the seat/rail prevented me from shooting close to the tree. I was just borrowing the stand, so wasnt really familiar with any adjustments that may have prevented this interference.

Appreciate the feedback.  I'm starting to look more and more at the Summit Openshot Deluxe/SS. I like that they've changed the seat to flip-up design now.  With a little padded tape it looks like it would be a good bowhunting stand.  Even looks a little less obstructive than the Bushmaster as far as side shots go.
