Anybody have a bow, or bows, with Russian Olive limb veneers? If so, could you please post them? I'm getting a set built to go on my Schafer Silvertip Bocote riser. I'm trying to determine what color stain would provide a contrast with the Bocote.
Thanks!
Bill
Bill,
Tim Golder has a real pretty set for his Schafer..email him and I'm sure he'll send you some pics! Beth Windauer sent me some when I was deciding on limbs about two years back...she may still have the pictures as well. Bob
Hi Bill,
Here's a photo of my Schafer limbs Bob mentioned. I've seen quite a few russian olive limbs but this pair is about as pretty and unique as they get!
My riser is walnut dymondwood, I'm not sure the russian olive would go well with bocote??? The bocote risers I've seen from Dave have been very dark. I'm sure Dave won't steer you wrong. Good luck!

Great looking Bow/limbs Tim...
YUCK
just kidding bro....beautiful veneers.
Hey Billy...a neighbor should be receiving his Tall Tines in the next week or two.....I'll let you know how my test drive goes
Had your Shrew out this week! No opportunities but it felt good to have her out! :)
Keep in touch.........
Those are nice
Tim
Man....I really hate to see you trying out a TallTines. You'll be trying to talk me out of mine then (:
I'm happy to hear you're stll using the Shrew, and I hope it gets worn out between you and Timmy.
Wow Tim those are very nice.
Tim,
Wow! Those are gorgeous veneers. If Dave can come up with a set remotely close to that for my bow, I think they would go very well with my Bocote riser without being stained.
Below are some pics of my bow:

Jason,
If you're wondering why I'm ordering a new set of limbs for my Silvertip, it's because the riser and limb combo I presently have yields a 64" bow. While it's very smooth, it's a bit too long for my 28" draw. I think the 62" bow that I will get with the limbs I'm ordering coupled with my 19" riser will be better matched to my draw length. Besides, those Russian Olive veneers rock!! :D :biglaugh:
Bill
Gonna be very nice Bill please share them with us when you get them.

Ben,
It's not going to matter what color spectrum the Russian Olive veneers end up being on my new set of limbs. They will be gorgeous. Thanks for sharing the pics. Your limbs are eye popping beautiful, too.
Bill
Decisions, decisions. Dave and Beth sent an email to me today with the pic below attached.

Now I have to decide which I would rather have the Rosewood Stained Russian Olive veneers I originally ordered, or the dark Russian Olive veneers like on Tim's bow.

Any suggestions? I think I know what I'm going to go with, but I'd like to hear some others thoughts.
Bill
Hey Bill....I really like the light lines in my limbs, I think it would give you just a touch of flair!!!
Your call....Young and Flashy or Mature and Elegant
:biglaugh:
Tim,
I'll turn 63 in about 6 weeks. What choice do you think I'll make? ;) :)
Bill
How about a third option? Dave and Beth also emailed a pic of a lighter colored set of Russian Olive veneered limbs that are a good match for their Walnut Dymondwood risers. How about them being stained darker to match my Bocote riser? What do you think?

Bill
Of the 2 pictured on top I'd go with the bottom ones. I am with Tim on this one. I am 61 by the way.
Be safe.
God bless,
José
Hey Bill....you are currently suffering from internet overload :scared: . Way too many choices! To me they all look real nice!
Here's an idea. Ask Dave or Beth to surprise you with what they think would compliment your riser the most. That way you'll have that whole suspense thing going from now until it arrives at your door!
:jumper: :jumper: :jumper:
Tim,
Actually, that would probably be the best choice for me. I've had Ric Anderson build two Thermals for me and on both bows I have him the two main woods I wanted in the riser and the limb woods and left the rest to his artistry. Anticipation would be high until I received the new limbs, that's for sure! ;) :) :biglaugh:
Bill
Well... what looks good to you?
Tom,
Actually, there are three options, maybe four, that each looks great to me. The options are:
1. Dark colored limbs like on Tim's Silvertip
2.. Rosewood stained limbs
3. Lighter colored limbs left natural color
4. Lighter colored limbs stained to match the riser
Actually, I would be more than happy with either option 1, 2 or 4.
Bill
The only russian olive I've seen was unstained under glass. It had a cool iridescence to it.
ttt
Bill,
I like the three options you would be happy with, but my favorite is option 1 if that is the second picture in the post at the top of the page. The natural variation in color is very attractive.
Allan
I've narrowed my selections down to:
1. The darker Russian Olive veneers like on Tim's bow (Tim, I've decided to go with the mature and elegant). :biglaugh:
2. If Dave & Beth doesn't have any of the darker veneers on hand or can't locate any of them, then I want a set of the lighter Russian Olive veneers stained to a lighter red spectrum color than the Rosewood. I'm thinking something on the order of Bubinga to Bloodwood (Tim, this is my young and flashy option). ;) :biglaugh:
