Title: Ordered New Set of Limbs for Schafer Silvertip
Post by: WildmanSC on November 17, 2009, 04:24:00 PM
I placed an order today for a new set of limbs for my Schafer Silvertip.  They will be the Short limbs and on my 19" riser will make a 62" recurve.  I ordered Russian Olive veneers and if needed asked that the veneers be stained to match my Bocote riser.  I also ordered the Elk Antler tips.  I ordered the bow in the range of 46-50#@28".  Now I just have to wait 4 months, or so, for the limbs to be completed.   :)

Good on ya, Bill! I'm in the same boat. I've ordered a set of ~65# limbs for mine. They'll be bocote (the veneers).

Ben,

If I was about 20 years younger I'd be shooting in the 55# to 60# range.  Unfortunately, I'll be 63 in a couple of months and I injured my right shoulder playing football in high school and reinjured it about 8 years ago when I drew a compound without having an arrow to release to adsorb the energy in the bow.  Consequently my right arm felt like it was ripped off at the shoulder!    :knothead:    :(

Now that I've placed the order I'm starting to think that I may want to have the limbs stained to be a contrasting color and wedges that would match the stain.  Something in the reddish range.  I really like the Rosewood Dymondwood, so I may ask Dave to use that for the wedges and then stain the Russian Olive veneers to match the wedges.

Bill,

Nice choice, Dave's Russian Olive vaneers are beautiful.

Steve,

Yes, I've really liked the looks of bows with Russian Olive veneers for quite some time.  I'm just now finally getting around to finally ordering a set of limbs with the Russian Olive veneers.

Bill, I had this set with your bow at one time. Sold them as they were just too heavy for me. Maple with bocote wedges. I did not think I would like the maple, but the contrast with your riser was good looking....just thought I'd give you another option to think about...ha.

David,

Thanks for the suggestion.  They are sharp looking limbs and would match up with the Bocote riser as well as the Zebrawood limbs that are presently on the bow.  But, I'm either going to go with the Russian Olive in their natural color or have Dave stain them somewhere in the red color spectrum.

Curly Maple looks good with just about any wood in a riser.

I received a call from Beth last week to mail my riser.  Dave is working on the limbs.  They received my riser this past Tuesday.  Now just to wait and see what they come out like.    :)    :biglaugh:

Cool! You'll love it. It was so good to get my "born-again" bow back to Australia.

I just got my bow back from dave on Wed.  He added Texas Rat Snake Skins to my 66# limbs.  They look great.  Pic on Stickbow.
