Title: Tree stands and rain
Post by: Jock Whisky on November 16, 2009, 04:37:00 PM
Living on the west (wet) coast means accepting the fact that it rains...lots. I usually leave my tree stands and climbing sticks out during the season. Pivot points are well greased but I am concerned with the effect of rigging such as straps and ropes being wet for days at a time.

I'm interested in the opinions of others on this issue or if in fact it is a concern at all.

I would be more concerned with the moisture in the metal tubing maybe freezing and cracking.

I have a few stands that are going into seasons 3 and 4 and I don't see any issue with the equipment at all.

Hopefully, that doesn't change.

I would contact the company that made the stand and ask for their input as well.

Good luck.

Mine stay out all the time the straps get wet they dry and get a little tighter, and the metal is fine. Just check for dry rot and rust at the hinges and if you think it's ok then it's ok you have to hunt it it's up to you to determine the safety.
