Hey guys i've been playing around on the arrow calculator but I wanted some of your opinions on this. I plan on ordering some of these arrows and I can't decide if I should get the 400s or the 340s since i'm pretty new at this. I will be shooting 190 grain simmons interceptors and the original 160 grain simmons. I shoot a 55 lb black widow and my draw is a 29" and I normally like my arrows to be around 29.5" or a little longer. Also should I add extra weight up front or not? I planned on using 3 5" feathers. Thanks guys.
340s for sure.
You could probalby shoot either one depending on the length. With carbons I let the tuning determine their final length.
I'd have to say the 400s.
I'm drawing 61/62# at 30" with my Morrisons & I can only shoot the 340s if I leave them full length & load the fronts with 100gn inserts & 200-250gn broadheads.
Well I played with the dynamic spine calculator and according to it, a 400 would be perfect with just the 190 head up front @29.5" and would weigh 516 grains and have 16.7% foc and the 340 would be near perfect with the 190 head plus 50 more grains up front @29.5" and would weigh 590 grains and have 18.8% foc if i did everything right ha
If it helps,I shoot Dan Toelke Whips,54# @ my 29" draw with three 5" feathers and 400's & 500's both shoot well when length from back of point to throat of nock is 30 3/8" and the 500's have two 100 gr. brass inserts and 145gr. field pts., filling the last 3" or so of the shaft with inserts & field pt. effectively shortens the shaft and stiffens spine and allows use of the points that easily extract from 3d targets. 400's fly the same with a 50 gr. brass insert and either 250 grain field points or a combination of steel inserts/broadheads at or a bit above 250 grs. Both set-ups provide 22% f.o.c. and weigh 650-660 grs. My experience has been that carbons are MUCH STIFFER than charts indicate and I would suspect you will have to put a lot of weight up front for 340's to fly well out of your set-up.
Check out the classics, I shoot a 50# 29", 400s cut to 30" total 545 grains. I'm new to the trad but these seem to be shooting well for me.
500's will work perfect for your set up. I am shooting 500's at 31 inches with 275 grains up front and they are flying perfectly with a 55lb draw weight.
HAH! How's that? That's a pretty wide range that works for everyone...
