Went out turkey hunting this last wednesday on a new piece of land my friends own that's just loaded with turkeys. Got set up by 6:00 am, watched the sun rise, heard the birds wake up and come down from roost...ah, perfect! They made their routine walk across the little meadow I was set up in and to my great surprise two nice toms came wandering in about 10 yards out of range. I got poised, got a little tension on the string, and was dreaming of how they'd look on my Thanksgiving dinner table when the wood erupted to my left with the sound of dogs...big dogs! The birds hightailed it, which would have been okay had they not all went the same direction. Crap...hunt over...or not!
Pretty soon these two big rottweilers begin wondering what this tent thing is with the funny smelling thing inside of it. Having them circle my blind was a bit disconcerting, and when one tried to poked his massive head under the bottom of my blind, I gave him a boot heel right between the eyes. That held 'em off long enough to call the landowner on my cell phone (which I NEVER bring and was almost dead). She said, "Just hold tight. I'll call my neighbor." Five minutes later, Elmer Fudd came roarin' in on a four wheeler to save the day. Guess the only turkey that got it that day was me. :biglaugh:
sorry to hear that. you probably won't have a bigger rush than that anytime soon though. :)

I've had dogs run up on me in the woods, kinda freaks a fella out! now my ten year old son is hunting with me, so when IN. made it legal to carry a pistol in bow," that is if you have a permit" I pack me a little ruger 22 or a 40 glock, you never know!! Jason

I don't think I'd recommend unleashing bear spray from inside a ground blind. Having been on the receiving end of several healthy doses of pepper spray, I think I'd rather deal with the dogs. Just saying. :scared:
Last year I finally had access to a some real good private property.This unit is 80% private and hard to get access. The owener had been seeing a real gaint,200" plus muley. It was a beautiful 13x9 with a 30"+ spread. It was the last two days of the hunt and I only had one day to hunt it. When group of bucks started to funnel out of a big gorge with the biggy in tow. Guess what started chasing does on the hill,a big white dog!!! :banghead: :banghead: it chased deer all night. I feel your pain.
