When I first decided I was going to finally make time to do some of the things ive been putting off for 20+ years, I picked up a Trad. Bowhunter. The advertisement on the back page was a Great Northern "Bush" bow. After pondering it a few days I called GN and spoke with Jerry. Was one of those conversations that seemed like we knew each other already. Have alot of common interests (Jerry is a big custom knife fan).
Any how to make a long story short, I gave it some more thought after our initial conversation, called Jerry back the next day and asked if he had any "Curly Hickory". He had enough for 1 bow. I was wanting a fairly compact bow, and the wood he had worked out perfectly as he barely had enough for a 60" Bush Bow.
I placed the order about 6 weeks ago, and in fridays mail I recieved the Bow.

Coca Bola riser (thought i ordered Shedua, but im quite sure its Coca Bola).
Havent shot much as Im buzy with kids this weekend. My initial impression was that the grip was going to be too small (top to bottom), but in shooting that issue doesnt arise.
The Bow is deceptively simple, and therein lies the charm. On initial draw this bow really opens up nicely and feels like a #45 bow... really. It is very smooth from initial draw to anchor, and really does feel much lighter than its actual weight.
Grabbed six 530 grain cedar arrows to practice, 5 out of the 6 were in the kill at 15 yards. I know that dont mean much to most of you here that can really shoot, but for a beginner that shoots "average" at best, that made me smile.
Shot a few more strings and found as long as I "picked" my spot, the bow would put them RIGHT there.
Its not as quiet as I expected, but they may just be a matter of "tuning" and some cat whiskers!

I have one thats got Osage limbs 51# @ 29", they are sweet and very nice to carry. Just two wool puffs and she will be silent!
Lamey, I've been shooting a GN Critter Gitter for a couple years and IMO, you made a great choice. My CG is church mouse quiet and your Bush Bow can be, too. Add some Wooly Whispers or such and play with the brace a bit and you will be there. Your riser is Coco Bolo Dymondwood; good stuff.
man I really like the looks of the bushbow. Just havn't been pushed ove the edge to order one yet! This may do it!

Great looking bow Matt. That looks like the Shedua dymondwood in both my Ghosts but it and the Cocobolo can really be close. Those Bushbows are sweet.

Nicest looking Bush Bow I've seen! I really have a fondness for good looking hickory and your's is outstanding. I had one for a while and you'll be surprised how quiet that bow can get.

WOW that bow sure looks nice. While I have about a dozen Great Northern's, I do not have a Bushbow but my next bow will be a Bushbow.

You can't beat a Great Northern longbow or Jerry.
I just ordered a 62", Bushbow, jacknife from Jerry. It should be here in about 6 wks. I have a 62" Critter Gitter, jacknife, that is a pleasure to shoot. They have excellent speed, are very quiet and you can shoot various spined arrows.
well after a PM from Molson, i just took some of my wifes wool yarn, made a few wraps around 3 fingers (10 wraps), slipped that in the string, clipped the ends.... and SHAZAM! I know have a VERY quiet bow!
I was actually shocked how well that worked, really took all of the noize away and 99% of any hand vibration I was feeling.
All without spending any $$, thats one of the many things I love about traditional archery, its not competely driven by market media.
Again, im amazed how well just a little bit of wool yarn worked. Wasnt exactly sure where to place the wool, so i measured down 10" from the bottom eye of the string.

thanks again all, I must say that the photos dont do the bow justice, the limbs are much more "gold" in real life, and the "curly" aspect (stripes) show up much better as well... The limbs almost have a translucent or "3d" effect.
