Just got a used Bear Montana delivered today. First longbow after numerous recurves.
When strung, it looks odd and off tiller. The distance at the fades between the limb and string on the top limb is 9.0 inches. Same spot on the lower limb is 8.5 inches.
It does have a cheap replacement string which I plan to upgrade to a fast flight.
Is this normal for this type of bow or is it due to the string?
I will check mine when I get home today. I never really payed attention to it. I have noticed it appears to be non-symmetrical. Mine has a 6strand D97 string. Its quiet and fast.
Mine is 3/8th longer on the top limb so you are not too bad at 1/2" I don't think. BUT, what is your brace height? 9" seems way too much. My brace height is 7 1/8th inches.
Also, if memory serves me right, I believe I read somewhere that early Montana's didn't have the limb tips beefed up for fast flight strings. Might want to check into that to make sure yours is.
My Montana is a 50#'er, the brace is 7 3/4" and tiller from top to bottom at the fades is only a 1/4" different. Mine is silent and shoots great....
I appreciate the feedback. Brace height is 7.5 at the shelf. It is just noticeable that the upper limb has more bend than the lower. Otherwise they are straight with no twist. Serial # is ML-06 538. I have to check and see if they used fast flight for this bow.
Mine is about 1/4" longer on the top limb. Mine's braced at 7 1/2".
