The farm just up the road is where I've deer hunted since we moved up to Kansas 10 years ago. I usually see deer or at least sign but this year it's been empty. The owner has more cattle in there this year so I step in plenty of "cover scent" walking in. Yesterday I had a couple of coyotes hanging around pretty close but didn't get a chance at them.
Wonder where all the deer have gone...
Sometimes the cattle eat up too much of the browse and the deer seem to find "greener" pastures.
Deer don't like cows... They smell bad and mooo a lot.
Check the edges of the property for sign.
Deer around here wont run where cattle do, they have figured out they get hornworm and other parasites. I have killed several deer that have moved in where cattle were earlier, and found them withe the growths from these parasites.
i think cattle and deer will compete for ground i have a small pasture at my huntin spot and they alway move better when the cattle are gone but i still see them walk threw it to get water even when they are there check the edges for sign and maybe some thing will turn up good luck
I think cattle stomping around a deer's favorite bedding area will push the deer out, just because of the activity.
But deer in my pastures move in and around the cows, and the cows don't give them any more than a parting glance.
Thanks for the comments guys. I was thinking the same, too many cows... plus there's standing corn on land to the west and east with good cover on it's edges. I can hunt the land to the west so guess I'll take a long walk west next time out.
