I've read alot of threads about how 2 blades out penitrate 3 blades...
How 3 blades make a bigger hole and won't close up like a 2 blade.
How you can't get a 3 blade as sharp as a 2 blade.. if you can get a 3 blade sharp at all....
My thought is "Why even bother with a 3 blade?" Use a 4 blade with the removeable bleeder blades . You can get a steeper angle when sharpening just like a 2 blade and the hole won't close up on you when you use the bleeders.. just like a 3 blade...
Can anyone point out any advantage of a 3 blade over a 4??? Is there any??
Why would you choose to use something so hard to sharpen anyway??? 4 Blades are the way to go!!!

Not everyone finds 3-blade heads difficult to sharpen. I used them for a number of years and had no issues getting them sharp, flying straight, or putting them through the lungs of whatever I was hunting.

People have been killing all sorts of big game with 3-blade heads for generations. I'd say they work just fine.

I find the woodsmans and Snuffers to be the easiest heads to sharpen. Once you learn how to do it, it is a piece of cake! Mike

I guess some folks are truely blessed with being able to sharpen those 3 blades or maybe their definition of sharp isn't the same as mine? To me if I can't "hear" the hair popping off my arm and there is any hair left after just 1 swipe it ain't sharp. When I first started in Trad Archery I really really wanted to use those huge 3 blade Snuffers. I'll admitt they look like they will cut a chicken in half. But after 2 dozen snuffers, a Snuffer Tamer and everything else I could try to learn from here and the other site... PvC pipe with sand paper , the Snuffer Tamer, Belt sanders + 100's of hours trying ect. I finally figured out... IMHO you can't get a 60 degree bevel anywhere near as sharp as a 21 degree bevel...And you can't get a 21 degree bevel as sharp as a 17 degree bevel. That's why a straight razors so thin....
The best thing I have ever even came close to while using was the Tamer. But it takes off so much metal to knock down the bevel it ain't funny.

If you're happy with what you use,have at it.

But I'll keep using my "dull" 3 blades   :thumbsup:

Guru, I'm just bord?? And was thinkin that I've seem hundreds of threads on 2 vs.3 blades but don't recall any 3 vs. 4??
Are there any advantage of a 3 blade over a 4??
And I'm sure that a 3 can some how by a gifted hand be sharped. But I don't think it will ever be as sharp as a 2/4 blade. The bevels just to wide unless you use a Tamer??

I'm not sure if you could break a 300 extreme (or new woodsman elite) without a hammer and an anvil if you tried. Show me a 4 blade with the cutting surface of a 160 Snuffer.

 4 Blades are the way to go!!!  Opinions obviously vary.

I think most folks that don't get 3 blades sharp enough are not getting the bevels level to start with....or don't have the right tools or talent.

You can also get a 2 blade too sharp to hunt with as it will not be durable and roll.

I'm a 4 blade man....but have taken my share of animals with SHARP 3 blades as well. Like you said, didn't mean to offend LOL.

I certainly wouldn't have shot this guy with a butter knife 3 blade head...But he was shot with a SHARP 3 blade...after a sharp 2 blade ricochet off a rib and ran up the outside of the rib cage for about 5 inches..

USE what you can get sharp by all means, AND what you have confidence in.  No need to start a pissing match thread just because you are board.
