I bet im not the only one who gets bored of shooting at the same square over and over again. So if any one has any good target ideas post em' up! Thanks guys
Eric
I was reading an old artical about how one of the Wensel Bros used to climb in a treestand with a pocket full of golf balls. He'd throw them out one at a time at various distances and shoot at them.
I also think those Iron Buck things are cool. Just a piece of tin in the shape of a buck with a hole were the vitals should be and you try to hit that hole (or potentially break an arrow).
I have stacked plastic range bales at all of the spots on my yard range, but like you say, a flat rectangle gets boring. I can't use commercial 3D's because of the ricochet possibility and I recently wanted to practice on a javelina for a hunt. So... I made a javelina. Not expensive not really that much trouble, turned out to be effective, pretty longlasting (even with broadheads) and repairable. Weighs nothing so easy to put in and out and the possibilities for smaller animals are endless. I kept rounded the edges for some shape, but didn't try to go totally realistic, and with the softer foam base, ricochets haven't been a problem at all. Shooting at something that isn't just a flat picture let's you see that a miss really is a miss. Did a buildalong of it at:

I use milk jugs. About the same size as kill zone on a deer, cheap, can be placed anywhere..Did i say cheap?
I use limons off my tree. I seen Dicks javelin great idea ,made a coyote like that yesterday.
thanks guys. I really like that Javelina idea. Gonna have to try to do a bear!

tennis balls and blunts or judos.
tennis balls / apples still in the tree, leaves, acorns, walnuts. love to walk around range or yard and shoot leaves! different angles distances. found out how much fun judo points and flu flu can be!
Dick, I like that target. After shooting it awhile do you get the blue foam residue on your arrows?
On trash day I look for old sports balls(basketballs, soccer, footballs, ect.)my kids had ton's and they can throw them or roll them, while you try and hit' em it's a fun game for all of us.I take a soccer pall to the field(after hunting season is over) and kick it and try to shoot it, it's good practice.
Hedge Apples. Tough and Cheap.
This takes two but is fun.
RC car with a empty 2 liter bottle towed behind it.

Well, this time of year if you can get out to the woods and their in season, Squirrels!
Good shootin, Steve
I have an odd target that I love to shoot. Cedar siding! Try it you will love it.
Let me explain...
About 5 years ago I sided my house with cedar siding. When you do that, you get a fair amount of scrap which I use as kindling.
One day I randomly placed 3 or 4 - 10" (or so) x 6" boards in the yard upright and shot at them. They are great. It is like breaking bottles without the glass mess. When you hit them you get this great "crack" sound and sometimes they break (and don't harm the arrows). When they do, you have kindling. Nonetheless I find the noise of the hit and sometimes the breakage a nice diversion and/or great positive feedback. You also need to "pick a spot" which isn't always the case with small targets! My kids love it too. And even if you don't side your house with cedar, one board is cheap and makes lots of targets.
Try it.

Nope.
Real first name is William.
Last name is not Tell.
But as a kid it was one of my favorite stories. When I was out shooting the bow I was Will Tell or Robin Hood.
Come to think of it.... apples and the Sherif of Notingham make great targets.
I'd like to see the coyote and the bear! Yes, after awhile you do see some blue residue, but it comes off. Spraying the arrows with Pam or waxing them helps.
