Ladies and gents it's been an intersting few days here in IL and today was the day! What a morning I'll get going on the story in a bit but here's a teaser!
I had a real dandy chasing does around me all morning, four times he came by at under 20 yards without offering a shot, Finaly he got seperated by the hot doe due to chasing a smaller buck off. The buck was south of me at 30 yards the doe north of me at fifteen yards.
He came right down the old lane heading straight to me! Then put on the brakes at 12 yards facing me and stood there for a full five minutes..........
Then his sixth sense kicked in and he turned and walked straight away from me :knothead:
He walked off 40 yards from me and started circling behind me! The old heart was getting a work out! Could it be the fith time this morning he would come by and actually give me the shot?
Well he came a sneaking on from behind on my right side, I'm a lefty so thats not to bad! At 10 yards he finaly cleared the brush and slightly quartered away from me. I managed to slow my heart beat take a breathe and when his leg went forward i came to full draw and sent a vapor carbon with an old green bear razorhead along with an 100 grain brass insert into him!
He took two big bounds with his tail straight up like a deer does when you jump them out of there bed, and i saw my arrow fall out of his offside. He then just gently walked off blood pumping out both sides...........
I saw him walk off sixty yards or so and stopped behind a big pin oak which still had all it's leaves. He stopped there and i could just barely see him then all of a sudden I couldn't make him out anymore!
Ten minute later a little three point came by and made a rub 5 yards west of me then headed off in the direction the one i shot went.I watched him as he got close to where i last saw my deer and saw the little guy get nervous then sneak off down the hollar.
At this point i knew my deer was still there the question was was he down?
I waited a full hour then climbed down to look at my arrow.
WAY TO GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I could see him laying there dead from my arrow! Her'es where I first found him.

I just want to say thanks to all the guys who put up with my hour of texting while i was waiting in stand! Thanks guys silly as it sounds that made sitting there waiting much better!
He's a main frame 8 with a sticker on the left making him a 9 pointer. He's a dandy but I have another tag and have been seeing a true monster That dwarfs this one! Know if i can only get a date with him!
Of equipment i used my 53# bob lee curve and a vapor carbon with a 100 grain insert and an old bear razorhead!
Congrats on a fine deer!

Great deer and story, Dennis. Thanks for sharing. Now, quit messing with those dinks and get out there after the big one.
I need to get me one of those dragging teams.
Very nice, sounds like you found that magical day.
Near perfect rack! That is an awesome deer!
Hey Dennis, with all he talk on aging and processing the deer, what are you doing?
Warm weather here in the Midwest this weekend, wondering minds want to know!
Great buck!! :clapper: that is a beautiful rack.
I seen that buck today, very nice dennis!!!! That is a trophy buck in anybody's book! Congrats and nice shot!!!!!!!!
Steve, I got one him pretty quick to answer that question. I followed my normal warm weather routine I skinned and quartered him and got the quarters chilling in the refrigrator! When it's warm like this I refrigerate for a couple days then slip the quarters in the freezer for 1 1/2 hours right before final cutting of roast and steaks. The freezer really firms it up nice where you can cut those "pretty" looking cuts!
WAY TA GO IDAHO!!!
:bigsmyl: :notworthy: :clapper:
That's a nice'un for sure! I can't wait till my next off days to go hunt again.
