Im hunting out of a 17 foot treestand with my longbow. Its a 55# and its pretty accurate out to thirty yards. My ranges from the tree go from the bottom of the tree out to about twenty yards. Any thoughts on the best spot to pick for highth on deer under twenty yards?
armpit. At that hight you'll get both lungs and if the exit hole is little lower You can get the Heart as well. So that would be half to lower 1/3 of the deer. Now as the season rolls on and the deer get string happy ( ducking the string/dropping as the arrow gets there) aim for the lower 1/3 of the deer. I hope this helps.
Thank you this helps alot!! Looking forward to using the tip in the tree in the morning!!
This doesn't have a single good answer. Depends on how close or far the deer is and how high or low you are. The angle always changes. You need to think in terms of seeing thru the deer and picking an aiming point that puts your arrow where it needs to be to take out the most goodies, and a low aim spot that might be chosen for a ground shot is not really a good choice for an elevated shot.
If the deer is close, you need to aim much higher, if it is farther away, then a lower aim point is called for.

You need to practice from your tree stand. There is no magic formula. It would help if you brought that stand down a few feet and improve all the shot angles. Frankly, the higher in the tree, the more you stick out.
