Title: Adcock ACS bow
Post by: Greg Owen on November 04, 2009, 09:57:00 PM
I just received a 'new to me' Adcock ACS bow. It is 43# at 28 inches.  I draw 28". I have a few questions.  Some I answered using search.

Bow protection: Will use Johnson paste wax.
What is the brace height? Its set at 6 5/8ths but this seems low. I am thinking 7 inches?
Anyone shoot a similar weight? Any arrow recommendations?  I plan  to get a new 6strand string. This thing shoots hard for sure. Thanks for any help.

My son and I have 3 3pc bows and 1 1pc 50-53#. Brace at
6 3/4-6 7/8 for all. 6 strand strings on each. Great set up.

Thanks Bjorn.

Anyone have thoughts on arrows?  If I want to load them up in front should I go 2 or 3 sizes above the charts?

We have several and I find they shoot with their best manners at 7 1/4".
we use 10 strands of DF97 with 16 in the loops.

I set it to 7 1/4" and the nock height at 5/8" and it is screaming fast but very quiet.

What arrows should I use at 43# @ 28" draw so say a 30 inch arrow.

Greg,

I've got several of these bows also, although admittedly much heavier draw weights.  I find they have much better manners at the taller brace heights of at least 7 1/4 inches.  These bows are highly reflex/deflexed and with the lower brace heights tend to not enjoy fantastic lateral strength.  In fact, I've had strings stretch thus lowering brace height and the danged lateral stability gets pretty hairy.  They have a tendency to want to roll out and unstring themselves in an ugly manner.  :knothead:

Not so when the brace height is between 7 1/4 to 8 inches.

Of course your mileage may vary......

As the others have said 7 1/4" is the bracing height I use.

I have experimented with all sorts of arrows and have settled on 50-55# spine wood with 125grn up front out of my 45# ACS's. But I have used higher spine to good effect it will shoot pretty much anything.

I would like to try for 300grns up front so I was thinking of a 70# spine.

I shoot a 53lb @28 ACS.  I draw it to 27" so I'm getting 50 lbs.  I brace at 7 1/4 and my best arrow flight has come from a 28" FMJ 400 shaft with 100 grain brass inserts and a 125 grain head.

Greg,
I bet Beman mfx 400's with 100 grain brass insert and 125 to 140 grain heads would shoot real well. At 29" they would weight about 555 grains with the 125 tips.

Anyone have an extra O.L. bow they wouldn't mind shipping to Michigan for an appropriate fee   :bigsmyl:
