Story and Pics when Gatekeeper sends me photos. I don't like bringing a camera often, I think its bad luck. ;)
Way to go Brian! I got a message from Tom that he got one to. I was going to call him today and forgot, I'll get ahold of him tommorrow. Ben

were waiting :readit:
Got settled in the treesaddle at 5:45 and had a doe bowing at me due to setting up ratchet strap steps. She kept blowing for atleast 10mins. when suddenly a coyote cut loose with howls and barks not 50yrds away, putting an end to the doe's snorting. I immediately picked up my bow and started lip squeeking to try and coax the yote to me. Out of the corner of my eye, I see a flash of white which turned out to be a skunk. "I thought great. Probably be how the day goes."
I hung the bow back up and got a text from Gatekeeper (Tom Porter) saying he was in his tree and wondering the same about me. I text back and got settled in for the mornings offerings. The deer in this spot seem to move through around 7:00am and 9:00am.
At about 7:15 I see a doe coming down the trail to me. I get ready and make sure I'm in the right position for the shot. She was taking a trail that would give me a 20-25yrd shot, when I notice a second deer coming. This was a fawn and she was gonna be closer. The fawn eventually took the main trail that would come right in front of my stand. I had to shoot before she would catch my wind. Quartering to, coming from left to right, I picked my spot and as she cleared the branches, I took her at 5yrds. Complete pass through, and I watched her fall 40yrds away. I know quartering to shots are basically a no-no, but pulling 60# and being a fawn I felt it would blow right through that soft boned shoulder blade. It hit her high in the lungs behind the shoulder and exited low in the gut. Upon the autopsy performed by Tom, I hit one lung and liver.
I text Tom to let him know I had one down. He asked if I was done for the morning, and I replied "No gotta wait for Mr. Big on the 9:00am shift."

I was thinking the same thing!!
Congrats!!
Congrats!!
It got to be 8:30ish and Tom and I had been texting a little. He had some come in, but was getting picked off. These deer look up like crazy. I decided to hit the can call and about five minutes later a forky comes in to 5yrds and glances up at me, but doesn't spook, looking high and low for that doe that was making that bleat. Finally he walked back into the brushy field I was hunting near. Gotta love that Predator Camo. I actually think the does will bust you alot sooner than the bucks.
A few minutes later I spot a doe coming down the trail. She veered away and was at 30yrds in some brush. I tried the can on her to see her reaction. She just looked my way and kept on about her business.
Finally it was aproaching the 9:00am shift. I took out the can again and made a series of four bleats spaced out about a minute, and put the call away. About five to ten minutes pass, and I look up the trail to see antlers coming!!!
This is great! Congrats Brian :wavey:
Looking forward to the rest :D
Tracy
very nice
Come on Brian spit it out!
He was paralleling me at a slightly higher elevation, and when he got right above me, he started straight for my tree. I thought what a nice buck, and with the sun in his eyes and on his antlers, he looked reeeaaally nice. My eyes were like a kid in a candy shop. I thought well there is no guarantees in hunting, and I may not have another chance. There are monsters in there.
He stopped about ten yards out and glanced up at me. I kept my bow in front of my face and put tension on the string. I could see his pupils in the sunlight and how they looked down at the trail he was following. He kept coming. Hard quartering to as was the doe I shot ealier. I said to myself "I'm going for it. Heck he's five yrds I can make it count." I drew back and looked at his ribcage and felt the hand slide back across my face. It was like slowmotion as the chartreuse feathers just slipped through his side. He mule kicks and goes into high gear. I spun around in the treesaddle and watched him cover 150yrds in a blink of an eye.
I set the bow on the hanger and proceded to text Tom. "BBD" I wrote in one text and another imediately saying "NEED HELP" I think Tom thought I shot another doe. I wrote 8PT maybe 120in. After I hung up the phone, I looked where that buck came from and another nice 8pt was coming in. This one was heavier, but he took another trail and was on a mission because he didn't respond to the can or a grunt snort wheeze. Here he is.

Way to go Brian. Couldn't of happened to a better Guy.
Nice story telling.
I hit him a little higher than mid ship and middle of the ribcage and the arrow exited low second to last rib on other side. It took out both lungs and clipped the bottom of the heart somehow. Blood trail was an easy follow and we smelled him before we saw him near the creek.
I owe Tom big time for helping me drag these deer out. It was surely an ass kicker. For me anyway. I'm thinking 3/4 mile drag on both minimum. Heck, Tom even field dressed my doe while I was getting my tree steps and pack off my tree. Thanks Again Tom!!
Now I have to wait until gun season before I can get another buck with my bow at this hunt. I'm going back this weekend and I'll probably see Godzilla himself and won't be able to do a thing about it.
