Post by: Richie Nell on November 04, 2009, 08:12:00 PM
Can anyone give me names of carbon arrows that are .280 spine deflection or stiffer. (other than the GT Big Game 100's)

Anyone...Anyone?

Thanks
Now I will check these out to see which ones are lightest and narrowest.

Thanks for the list there William, that's some good info.

Richie, I don't have any experience with the others mentioned, but those Carbon Tech Safari are just about indestructible. I know they aren't the lightest (15gpi) but good gracious they are tough.

Richie,

I think the Carbon Tech Safari is a regular diameter shaft. It takes the same inserts as their whitetail and cheetah shafts(industry standard -60 internal componets). The AD Nitro stingers are 21/64 at the point and use the same nocks as the AD Trad shafts. The rest are target shafts

Your welcome JC.

Richie,

I don't know much about carbon arrows but have started using them during last season.  What I have found is that with my gorilla draw of almost 32" I can't point weigh my CE heritage 350's nearly as much as I'd like.  100gr brass inserts and 125 heads are actually a little weak with a 32 1/4" cut shaft.  I've been wanting to get up into the 160 or 190 range for head weight but can't.

However, I was recently reading a post here about EFOC and a couple comments were made about Doc Ashby's internal wood footings and how you had to be careful not to glue the whole internal footing inside the shaft or IT MAKES THEM TOO STIFF.

That last part caught my attention....

There may be a way to use lighter, weaker spined arrows and basically "shorten them internally" and get the higher FOC's people want.  I believe the theory is that when you glue the dowel inside the shaft, it stiffens it so much up front that the working portion of the shaft is quite effectively shortened and the results are about the same as if you'd shortened the shaft physically.

Again, just hearsay from my perspective at this point but it makes sense to me.  I believe it's Clay Walker's post that started that particular thread so you could search his name to see the exact comments I'm talking about.

Dave..That does make sense.  That may be my next method of customizing an arrow.
Because...  With me pulling 71-72 @ 31ish  I must have decent total weight to hush the bow.
So..for me..decent total weight @ 800-850 grains with Ultra EFOC @ 35% must begin with a light shaft.

With GT BG 100's I have recently found (so far) that an Ultra EFOC 1000 grain arrow flys almost identical to a normal FOC 800 grain arrow. And VERY quiet to boot.  Also my 850 gr. 29.3% EFOC seems to fly alot flatter than I expected, like a much lighter arrow would fly.
