Title: Kenetrek pac boots?????
Post by: WESTBROOK on November 04, 2009, 01:08:00 PM
Anyone have any experience with these "Kenetrek of Montana" pac boots?

I love my Bean boots (uninsul)but, its came to the time of year where they are not very warm(20-30 degr.)

Are the insulated Bean boots significantly warmer than the noninsul?

Any info on a warm Bean style boot is appreciated.

Gotta get back to the woods!

Thanks
Eric

I've got a pair of the 13" Grizzlies, very comfortable for walking.  I've used them for stand hunting down to about 25 degrees and they did fine.  If you are going to be sitting alot you may want to go with the Northerns for a little more warmth.  The best part about mine is I got them for $69 when Bass Pro was closing them out.

I own the 10" Rancher and it is one of the best boots I have worn. They keep my feet warm and dry and I've got no issues.

Ditto Kadbow, Love the 13 inch grizzley.  rated to zero if you are walking, around 20 to 25 degrees F, is about the limit with a quality wool sock.  Great boot in my opinion, I hunt where every plant has stickers of some kind, they are really abused but the leather wears like iron and they are still very water proof.  A great boot !!

I think the pacs would be even better just a bit heavy.

Bob.

Yep, got a pair, love 'em. I also wear 16" pacs from Schnee's, they're very similar. I don't wear much of anything else during cold weather.

Have the 13 in. ranchers, also have the insulated bean boots. There is no comparision, the kenetreks have more support and much-much warmer. The good thing about the bean boots is you can feel the groud better, if that makes any sense.

Got some Kennetreks that are the insulated kind. They are warm, very comfortable, and relatively quiet. I sure like mine.

Eric, you can't see them but, I'm wearing my Kenetrek boots in this photo. A friend of mine and I were up elk hunting during this snow mess and my feet never once got cold.

I have the 10" grizzlies and they are an excellant boot with top notch service! can't go wrong with'em but if I was setting in 30 degree weather alot, I would get the northern for the added warmth!! Jason

Who makes or sells the Grizzly boots?

My only problem with them is that I have no way to try them, and to spend $350 on something I cant try on or walk in is not an option.

I have 2 clients that Swear by them, they go on long 15 day sheep hunts all aroungd the world and wont wear anything else.
If $$ wasnt an option, I would get them without care But when I can TRY others to see if I Like them At 1/2 the cost seems more reasonable

I recommend you consider the Schnee's 13" Hunter II boots.

My understanding is the Schnee's and the Kenetrek's are essentially the same boot, but the Schnee's are assembled in Bozeman, Montana while the Kenetrek's are assembled in Asia.

I use Schnee's and they are great boots.  When you wear out the bottoms, just send them back and they'll put on new ones for a small fee.

The Kenetrek are "assembled" in Bozeman. I think I will probably try the Hoffman Outdoorsman, basicaly the same boot but "made" in Idaho. Priced very nice also!

Kenetreks are made in Thailand....at least their Rancher and a couple others.  The Schnees are made there in Bozeman.

I think Kenetrek has a fine boot, though I've never owned any of them. I don't think I will ever buy a pair either, and that's no slam on Kenetrek.

Schnee's has consistently outperformed EVERY other online or catalog retailer I've ever dealt with. As a company I rate Schnee's 10/10 for accuracy, honesty and quality. Their pac boots are the best (of their type) in the world....in my world anyway!

Mr. Dill is right on the Schnee's pac boots! They are the best from the accurate description to the quality of the product. And yes... They are made in the USA!

The only issue I have of boots with "air bob" soles is that they don't go all the way to the outer edge, thereby you losse some suport side-hilling, or rocking etc. Also the air bob type soles stick very firmly below the grait on a tree stand which locks you in, but can make sliding your foot over as you rotate for a shot in another direction a little more dificult (noisy). I'm just saying Schnee's have the bob and the Kenetreck have "K" like a soft vibram.

Mike,

I get fully what you're describing. The current generation of air bob soles from Schnee's are different than those of years past. They actually have a full outer rim of cleats (blocks) which support the entire sole. I used to have the soles you describe, and these are a nice improvement for use in climbing, side-hills, and stands.

It's the Hunter II in bison leather. Not exactly sure what your uncertainty relates to, but my advice would be to call Schnee's and ask to speak to a boot specialist. This company has never given me anything but straight-up solid advice and knowledge.

I see there is a difference in soles now. Thanks Kevin.
